Tonioseven Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I'm working on restoring an AMT '66 Skylark and I need a complete set of 4 if at all possible. I just need to pointed in the right direction. I want to get this project over as soon as I can. Thanks.
highway Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Also Antonio, if they don't have to be Buick specific, you can find that wheel in almost any late 60s or 70s musclecar. Even the already mentioned 70 Buick GSX does not have the Buick center cap, the center cap detail is a decal in later issues, and a few other kits off the top of my head I remember having those wheels are the 70 Chevelle and 70 Boss 302 and 429 Mustangs from Revell/Monogram. They are so common I probably have hundreds of them in my parts box!
Jairus Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Scale Equipment Ltd also has a set of those wheels and you don't have to buy a whole kit!
exnyman Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 There are two distinctly different Buick chrome road wheels, one for the full-sized cars and another for the smaller cars. While they are both chrome-plated five-spoke wheels, they are very different. These are the big car wheels: And these are the small car wheels: Antonio is looking for a set of the small car wheels and in 1:25 scale, and can buy them from Modelhaus or Scale Equipment. If somebody has an old '66 Skylark kit or promo, they'd be in there too. The wheels in the Monogram '70 GS-X are the right style, but the wrong scale. And to add to the confusion, there was from 75-77 another "road wheel" that wasn't......it was used quite a bit on Century models and was actually a wheel cover which looked very much like the full-sized car road wheel, was a 15" cover but I think it was also used on the large cars into the 80's. http://hubcaps.org/century.html
Chuck Most Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 The Model King/AMT '70 Wildcat has similar wheels, not sure if they are the Buick-specific style or the Magnum 500s, but if I recall, they're a bit smallish on the diameter.
