diymirage Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 hey guys, i have the dodge A-100 cocacola truck (the repackaged little red wagon) and it comes with the racing hemi aswell as the stock mill just out of curiousity, what is that stock engine?
diymirage Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 so a small block V8 ? that will work for my aplication just fine much obliged
slantasaurus Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Yes, the 273 is just a smaller version of the 318/340/360 engine family.
Longbox55 Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 The Deora does have a Slant 6 in it, but there's no other engine option in the kit.
Chuck Most Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 Aaahhh! Thank you. That was one of those things that was going to drive me batty. Batty... The Deora did actually start out as an A-100, though, and the A-Bros made it look pretty with a ton of Ford parts. Other than the fact the engine is missing an air cleaner, it is a very complete and nicely detailed piece for its era.
a/gass Posted July 31, 2011 Posted July 31, 2011 273, 68 and newer 318,340,360 are LA motors (small blocks) 67 and older 318`s are poly motors (wide blocks) .just a little info 4 yonger crowed.mike
diymirage Posted July 31, 2011 Author Posted July 31, 2011 Didn't this kit also used to come with a straight 6? If not, what kit am I thinking of? I know there was a truck kit out there that used to have a V engine and a straight 6. Deora maybe? this kit has 2 V8s, that i learned today is a 273 LA and what i believe is a 426 hemi (though it may very well be a 385 hemi, the hilborn system seems more era correct for that vintage..a desoto firepower maybe?)
Chuck Most Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 I did not know that! I thought the Deora was a complete hand fab as far as the body. Dang it! You made me learn something today! Indeed, though there was quite a bit of hand-fabbed stuff on it, no doubt! The roof was actually made from Ford station wagon pieces (the front 'hatch is a '63/4 Ford wagon liftgate), and the exhaust outlets on the sides are '65/6 Mustang taillamp bezels. There's actually a guy doing a recreation of the Deora (he might even have it done now, I heard of this a few years back), and he's doing it exactly the way the A-Bros did it-
scale trucker Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 the coca cola a-100 is the little red wagon kit just no decals..426 hemi..and a 225 slant 6..
diymirage Posted August 1, 2011 Author Posted August 1, 2011 the coca cola a-100 is the little red wagon kit just no decals..426 hemi..and a 225 slant 6.. no slant 6 in my coca cola truck, just the aforementioned LA and hemi
Longbox55 Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 In addition, I believe the Hemi in the Coke/LRW is actually a 392 early Hemi, rather than a 426.
Longbox55 Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 Disregard my last post. Just doublechecked the kit, it is a 426.
diymirage Posted August 2, 2011 Author Posted August 2, 2011 so if one were to build the 273 from that kit...what would be the era correct colour to paint it?
Funkster Posted August 3, 2011 Posted August 3, 2011 Just to let you know, the stanard motor in the A100 was a slant 6 with a 3 speed manual trans not a V8. The 273 cid V8 engine was and option along with auto trans. PS: 198 cid slant 6 was stanard, while 225 slant 6 was a option.
diymirage Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 ooooone more question about this kit (using it for a project and i'd like to pretend i know what im talking about) the tranny provided with the 273...what is it ?
kenb Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 I looked in my kit and the Hemi has a 727 torqueflite trans behind it. I has what appears to be a manual transmission on the back of the small block V8. It looks like some generic thing. Not anything I've seen on any Chrysler and I've seen them all. I worked for Chrysler for 41 years. Ken
diymirage Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 thanks that a 4 speed auto right ? seems a bit heavy duty for a 273 or not ?
diymirage Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 the transmission mount in the A-100's is unique in that it hangs from above rather than sit on a crossmember. that mount is long gone...it interfered with the build this was going into (no details revealed yet...not untill i come up with a name...but im thinking 3-4-8 or something)
Junkman Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Lindberg provides only a Moon style gas pedal for the drag version, no other pedals strangely. Errr.... Which other pedals could one possibly need in a car?
kenb Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 the trans mount was a round bushing that hung off the top of the tailshaft. What lindberg has for a trans and mount is a joke, but unfortunately sometimes that's what you get with lindberg. For the most part I stay away from their stuff, but sometimes they're the only game in town and you have to bite the bullet. Ken
diymirage Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 the only reason i bought it was that it just might be the best bang for the buck model out there i used my 40% off coupon at hobby lobby so i got it for around 10 dollars if i were to build this as a stock A-100 that gives me a nice set of rims for the parts box AND the beginnings of a one-off race car that runs a hilborn injected hemi (cant go wrong there) allready connected to who knows what posidrive rear end that comes in its own subframe to boot all i gotta do is add a front axle and something to hold onto and im set
