W-409 Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Just tried polishing for '56 Chevy Bel Air StreetRace project. It came out pretty good, maybe next time I can get better result, just because this paintjob wasn't so good. Anyway, this project is coming really slowly, so I'm not going to post more pics, if you guys don't order me to post them. Well, there comes now bit of a break to my postings, next week I'm not home, but tomorrow I can post pics, or some other things, if I must. Used Auto Glym Super Resin Polish.
Guest Sickfish Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Look's like you've done a great job polishing out your Chevy mate! I've got the exact same polish in my stash & it's a really great polish! If you follow it up with a really good wax it will bring out an even better shine! You haven't said what kind of paint you used, enamel/lacquer/acrylic/automotive 2-pack?? Lacquers/automotive 2-pack will handle 1:1 polishes brilliantly, for obvious reason's, you'd only have to be careful with the other 2... they're not as hardy & if they're not given plenty of "gassing-out" time they have a tendency to burr & ruin an otherwise good paint job! All in all great job so far mate! Cheers Cliffo
W-409 Posted August 6, 2011 Author Posted August 6, 2011 Thanks, Cliff! I'm pretty happy about the end result too. I used Motip Acryl paint, straight from the spray can. It's painted long time ago. I cleared it with Motip's Acryl clear and it has been drying few months now. And just few hours ago got it polished...
Guest Sickfish Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 Guess it's had more than enough gassing out time then Cheers Cliffo!
W-409 Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 Thanks! Now I can't continue this, or any other build before friday, because i'm going to Lapland. But maybe friday I can get '70 Super Bee or '57 Bel Air polished... Hopefully. This project needs also new headers and some sanding on the wheel wells...
Dr. Cranky Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 It looks great, like glass. I like it. Good job.
W-409 Posted August 13, 2011 Author Posted August 13, 2011 Thanks for the feedback, Jim and Virgil! Next I have some other projects for polishing, like '57 Chevy, '70 Super Bee and '51 Chevy... Hope they turn out good too.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 13, 2011 Posted August 13, 2011 It looks like you got the hang of it and all your models are going to benefit from it. Congrats.
