455 Rocket Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Building has been going slow due to working a lot of overtime and I started building the trailer for this rig. I decided not to chrome my wheels. I was looking at my Can Do wrecker wheels that are chrome and thought it would look unrealistic. I used Duplicolor "Chrome" paint. Althought the pics don't show it, they look polished. For the trailer, I decided to cut it down to two axles. We don't have too many 3 axle trailers in California. It scales out to about 34'. I have some balsa wood I'm using to replace the plastic wood deck. I will BMF the steel deck plates.
mackinac359 Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Craig I like the concept. It looks a lot like many of the trucks seen on Hank Suderman's Lunchtime at the Overpass photos http://www.hankstruckpictures.com Click on the link the Hank's, then Truck Photos, then "B.C. Truck Pictures" then Lunchtime. Tim
Turbo590 Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Craig, I like what I see so far. Keep up the good work.... Now for the trailer decking.... Instead of using balsa wood, after trial and error..and in the middle of one of my other projects..a 20-ton tag trailer(still on the table)....I have come up with the peerfect combination of "real" solid OAK planking for floors. If you are interested, please email me. I have sold a couple of bundles recently (various lengths/widths) 3/16" (thick), I can email you pictures... Food for thought..Balsa would work great as well... Please keep us posted on your progress. Good Luck Kurt McLucas
Old Albion Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Craig, I like this Rig it looks great. The day cab Bison, Hiab, Low Boy and the colour scheme fit perfectly. Tim's right I checked some of those photo's it does look like the big Chevy belongs in one of Hank's photo's. Kurt's idea of oak planks sounds brilliant. I will definately try that some time. Great Work, keep us posted with progress. Best Wishes
Diesel Gypsy Posted April 23, 2007 Posted April 23, 2007 Very very nice. Did you use BMF on the cab ?
455 Rocket Posted April 24, 2007 Author Posted April 24, 2007 Yes it's BMF on the cab and steps. I still need to paint black around the windows and doors. Thanks for the comments.
Diesel Gypsy Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 The BMF really hits the mark Craig. I've been using Alclad alot & although its very good on large parts (wheels, rads etc) I've had less success with small parts & masked areas. I think its time to give the BMF a go.
