Bruce Poage Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 First time I have used Testors Lacquer. Sprayed 2 light and 2 normal coats plus 4 coats of clear. Looks pretty good but I want to take it one step further with a buff and polish. I'm ready for suggestions grown from experience. Thanks.
High octane Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Bruce, I use Testors lacquer almost exclusively and after the clear has gassed out I use an LMG Polishing Kit and wet sand the clear with 4000, 6000, 8000, and 12000 grits and get a really nice shine. You can then use whatever polish you like. I use Slick & Smooth from Mike's Scale Speed Shop. I hope this helps.
Bruce Poage Posted August 24, 2011 Author Posted August 24, 2011 Thanks for the reply. What would say is allowable "gas out" time?
scalenut Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I just do the tried and true up close "sniff test" if it still smells it ain't ready.
shucky Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 I avoid polishing kits. You can get the same finish w/out the risk of seeing sanding marks on your model by using a mild rubbing compound and scratch X (plus its easier and much quicker). Heck I've posted before about using ONLY scratch X to polish. About 4 "rubbings" of scratch X and your finish will be glass smooth. Lets remember here that your paint and gloss coat need to be really smooth in order to do this though. This is not for that paint job that your trying to save by polishing the bejeeezus out of.
