wgflatliner Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Let me say this in advance: i don't know squat about airplanes and naming components. All i can do for the most part is associate names to planes. SO.. anyways.. Picked up the 1/48 monogram F-8 Crusader for 5 bucks. I just opened the box today and saw a complete kit plus half of another for spare parts, plus it included all of the resin and photo etch parts! I barely started today, but it's progress none-the-less. Cockpit tub started with a blueish gray airbrushed, then an oil based black followed up with dry brushing silver to give it the worn look. Then i finished up some of the buttons in red and black using reference photos online. Had to fabricate the throttle control. Kit version of the cockpit tub: Resin comparison: and among the side inner walls, there's some photo etch pieces My goal is to try and not get intricately detailed, but to have fun and try something new. I know there's more to detail paint in the cockpit tub, and the inner walls, but i'll take care of it.
johnnyb Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 Keep us updated. I like building planes also. Building different types of kits keeps things fresh and you learn new techniques.
