Foxer Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I've asked this a few times before with NO responses, so it's about time to bother you all again. Part of my problem is I need a cream color for some wheels and none of the usual model paint lines carry it. I did just try some Folk Art artist acrylic and this was not suitable. Granted, I just used water to thin it but no "acrylic solvent" was available anywhere near here. I at this point, I'm at a complete loss as to where to try next and this build may just return to the undone pile.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Mike, I still love TAMIYA, Floquil, and Vallejo Model Air. Those are the ones I keep using with excellent results . . . just make sure you get the right reducer for Tamiya. For the Vallejo and Floquil, I use a little bit of distilled water and a drop of flow medium.

Dr.Cranky what do you suggest to use for the reducer for Tamiya?....after all Tamiya...Paints...Primer..and Thinner has been off the shelves for Months...which has almost put a halt to my Model Building...With my Tamiya kits anyhow....Still building a couple of the Revell Kits though... Thanks for any in-put....Good Day....Cheers..
XJ6 Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 i prefer to use Createx airbrush cleaner/thinner with Tamiya paints for airbrushing of thier acrylics. i've used thier thinner and i don't like it as much as the Createx, which IMO and experience works better and does not stink. while i still use Tamiya's thinner for brush painting thier acrylics, i like the Createx much better for spraying. Hey DoubleD Thanks for the info....I just happen to have a couple of bottles of the Createx cleaner...never thought of trying them to thin the Tamiya paints....Sure will Now!!!..Thanks a Lot...Cheers
scalenut Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 (edited) I use acrylic airbrush medium , from the hobby/craft stores. It won't strip the paint of it's binder like cleaners, windex and other concoctions. If you use too much Edited September 6, 2011 by scalenut
charlie8575 Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 For the education of those of us not trained in art and having never been able to pump the answers out of artist friends by any means, I've seen a lot of products like medium flow, etc.? Is it similar to Floetrol for house paint, or is it different? And what is this stuff anyway? Mike, for a cream yellow, I'd suggest either Testors light yellow mixed 2:1 with their cream as the major component. The Model Master Light Ivory with some yellow might also work. Charlie Larkin
