Before I go ahead, does anybody want to warn me about this?

I assume from the straightness of this model that AMT was no longer using acetate by 1961 but I don't want to find out the hard way.

(By "purple pond" I mean Scale Finishes' paint stripper).

I don't know about Sale Finishes' stripper, but Castrol Super Clean won't harm promos. I stripped a '61 Comet with CSC with no problems and I soaked it for weeks. I've seen some pretty badly warped promos after '61,so just consider yourself lucky.

Do not leave it in for long, I mean try five minutes at a time, tops!!!!

I learned the hard way on the MCM Enzo project car, that ended being thrown away.

If memory serves me right, AMT went to using Cycolac (orginal brand name of ABS plastic) in 1961, which didn't have the warpage problems of the original plastic used for promo's--"Tenite" which is acetate plastic. JoHan didn't make that transition for another year or so. MPC came on late enough (1965) that they used Cycolac from the get-go.

Thanks for the info Art. Could it be that the transition from Acetate to ABS happened gradually? Last night on Ebay there were two AMT 1960 Plymouth Valiants - one with the usual warpage, the other perfectly straight.
