h3ae86 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I've recently fallen in love with the 70 challenger. I'm looking to get a kit and I want to paint it yellow. problem is I'm not sure what shade of yellow it is. this is the yellow I'm looking for.
John Pol Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Hi Harold: if you can get Odds &Ends paint they have a yellow that is right on the money on color. You can get at WalMart or other stores. In canada we don`t have it anymore but you mit be able to get it there. John Pol
W-409 Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 I'm not 100% sure, but quite sure, that it is: Y-1 2211 Banana Beautiful color for '70 Challenger.
TurboKitty Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 (edited) yup, that will be Top Banana Yellow (that is what Dodge called it. For Plymouth it was called Lemon Twist). It is the only bright yellow that is a part of the HIP (High Impact Paint) choices for the Challenger in 1970. Edited September 20, 2011 by TurboKitty
Mooneyzs Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Hey Harold.... I am not sure what you normally paint your models with.... spray can, air brush...etc. Any way I would recommend that if you are wanting the right yellow for your project is to check out an auto body supply store. I am not sure how many people know but you can get them to pump enamels into spray cans. They are a single stage paint just like your typical testors and Tamiya type paints. You would be suprised that they are about $10 to $14 a can and it is your basic 12oz size can. you have many more colors to choose from than what you see at a hobby store or auto parts store (checker, napa, autozone...etc) Now if you are shooting with an air brush... you can get paint mixed from a touch up bottle size, 1/2 pint, pint, quart, gallon... I personally go this route and use PPG and House of Kolor on all of my builds. I find that I like spraying with base coat/clear coats much better. it is a little investment to get your reducers, clear and hardner but I find I get better results with them. this is just my personal opinion since I have had great luck with them.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Yes, it looks like banana to me. Check Tamiya, I think they have a lighter yellow. Also House of Kolor has a yellow that's pretty close to that one.
