TheCat Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I want to do more detailed custom decals, but I want to know which Ink-Jet Printer is better with which Decal Sheet Paper? I know ALPS printers are discontinued and costly to buy if you find one. I currently have an Epson PhotoStylus Printer and used Testor's Decal Sheets, but the ink seem to stay on top of the sheet and it does not give you a very clean detailed print-out. So, What's the BEST INK-JET Printer to use with Testor's Decal Sheets, OR what other Decal Sheet Paper I should be using with my Epson Ink-Jet Printer? Thanks
martinfan5 Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I have a Hp printer that I got a wally world to, and it prints really nice as well, but the testor decal paper really isnt that good, I would highly recommend using BMF decal paper line. http://www.bare-metal.com/model-decals.html
mr moto Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 I pretty much agree with Jonathon. As far as printers, use what you have as long as it's inkjet. I have an HP - don't recall the model - but I got it cheap. It does a great job as long as it's set for best quality print and you tell it that you're using photo paper in the print settings. I've had some success but also had some curling problems with Testors decal paper. The Bare Metal paper is heavier and has never given me any problems. The same paper is also sold by Micro Mark.
TheCat Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 Thanks everyone for the great information. I'm going to buy the Bare Metal Decal Sheets for now on. Also, I may buy a new Ink-Jet printer as my current one is 4 years old now.
miatamadman Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I'm using an HP C3150 All-in-one printer. The secret is the right paper. Testors paper is supplied by decalpaper.com. Same stuff and it's not so great. I had wayyyyyyyyy to much trouble with it not adhearing and curling. The best paper I found and all I use now is Supercal Decal Paper. I spent a small fortune testing all the paper available and I found this one to work the best.
martinfan5 Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 (edited) I am using a HP 3052A(wireless). Edited September 28, 2011 by martinfan5

Can you take a close-up picture of one of your models you used this paper on? Thanks, Felix
miatamadman Posted September 29, 2011 Posted September 29, 2011 Decals look like they were silk screened. I have not had any problems with the Supercal paper. All the others I tried had some sort of problem like bleeding when clearcoated, curling and not sticking.

I'm going to buy the SuperCal Paper and try it on my old printer before I go out and purchase a new one... Hope they come out looking like yours did. Again, Thanks for the info.
