Moparkid13 Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Wat makes this so hard to work with is the fact that its a fastback car. also I dont have any a-pillars either so i have no idea at all what to do up front.
Moparkid13 Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Make it into a speedster with a pillarless windscreen. Maybe the wrap around one from the Callaway Corvette. That's a pretty good idea. Have you ever seen anybody do it with a model?
george 53 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Joe seems to be on track there bro. If you want anything OTHER than a "Speedster" type of car, you'll need some type of A-Pillar post. The wrap around type of windshield wouldn't be too hard to do. But then, depending on your abilities, a ragtop would look nice too.
Moparkid13 Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Try this brother!! Cesar oh WOW LOVE IT.. Ill probly use that for inspiration if thats ok with you.. The only problem is that this was either a convertible originally or a notchback and mines a fastback.
Cesar Bossolani Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Was posted to inspire you, mate!! Looking your model, it's possible to restore it for look as Brockmeyer's sketch!! Cheers Cesar

Moparkid13 Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 (edited) also the left side window got cracked, should i keep em or get rid of them? Edited October 3, 2011 by Moparkid13
Moparkid13 Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 I got the window painted. It looks good but theres a few spots where paint bled through etc. does anybody know how to get paint off the clear windshield? 100_1779 by moparkid13, on Flickr 100_1780 by moparkid13, on Flickr 100_1781 by moparkid13, on Flickr
Moparkid13 Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 also I wouldn't be this far with it if it werent for peoples ideas so keep em comin please
Skydime Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 You've got a start on what could be something great there. One suggestion though, you might want to use a filler for models instead of bondo because it can actually melt into the plastic as it hardens. If I were going to resort to 1:1 body filler, I wouldn't go any further than spot putty.
Moparkid13 Posted October 4, 2011 Author Posted October 4, 2011 that's what it is is bondo spot putty. I had read that it works very well. anything u suggest?
Sam Cates Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 91% or higher Isopropyl alcohol works well for taking paint off clear parts in my experience. Honestly, I would rip off the wing windows and leave the entire windsheild clear, gives it a wild custom look. Great start though, Keep it up!

Moparkid13 Posted October 5, 2011 Author Posted October 5, 2011 I noticed tonight that the model glue and bondo don't seem to be holding up to well, I was sanding and the cover just popped right off... So im taking the opportunity to give it a dip in the "purple pond". I bought some 5 minute epoxy gel from parts store, it says it works for plastic, You think this will be better?
Nick Notarangelo Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 so far so good,if you want a easier puddy to work with ,games workshops green puddy is about the best I have used and it's very forgiving. Nice way to save a kit.
Moparkid13 Posted October 6, 2011 Author Posted October 6, 2011 well the paint is all stripped off of it and Im back at square 1 but with all the ideas now lol. the epoxy seems to be holding up a whole lot better than the glue. Does anyone know how the epoxy sands?
CorvairJim Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Over a decade ago, I built a mid-engine, 12-cylinder Corvair "Speedster". The look seems to work well with lots of different body styles, especially for drag models, even though mine was built more as a LeMans-type endurance sports racer. I'll see if I can post some photos later on if you like.
surfjunke Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Some thing else to try for gluing that rear deck back on is JB Weld. It is made for repairing metal car parts. It is a two part putty & when dry sands very well & feathers nicely. It comes in two types, JB quick & regular that dries in 24 hours. You could tape the pieces together & fill the area with baking soda & thin CA glue. A really nice two part auto filler is Evercote , polyester glazing putty. It is not hot & sands very well & feathers nicely. The Cuda is coming out nice, so far. Like what you have done with a wreck. You could carve a master of the windshield you like & vac form it from clear acetate. The idea of the Calloway Vette windshield would look cool. You could use the interior & headrests as well.

moparfarmer Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 You've got something going there that could be very sleek. I like whats happening but sorry, you got to lose that awful scoop off the hood. Takes away from the smooth sleek lines I think your trying to achieve. Keep going and show whats happening.

I was kind of thinking the same thing but theres a big hole in the hood. and if i fill it you'll still be able to see the work on the bottom side. but then again I was thinking about adding a blower so I might jus remove the scoop and just have the blower stick out of the hood.
Moparkid13 Posted October 8, 2011 Author Posted October 8, 2011 any suggestions on the hood/ blower idea? Ive been working 12 hr shifts so its hard to work on models plus keep the wife happy, but maybe ill get some model time at the beginning of next week.
