Darin Bastedo Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Quite a while ago I threw together this image and it turned out so well I decided I had to do it in scale. So I started Cutting and glueing and scratch built a new roof for the roadster. I always thought the front end bore a passing resemblance to the original Dytona Coupe i figured adding a roof would complete the transformation. The plan is to paint it in guardsman blue with white stripes.
customsrus Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 looks good, never thought about putting a roof on this, but it fits it well. It definitely has a resemblance to the original.
Monty Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Fantastic concept! I have a thought for the paint: Shelby offered red or blue stripes over a silver body. I think this would look great if you used the stripe color as the main color and used silver for the stripes. I have yet to see a real Series 1 up close, but every picture makes the red/blue stripes look like a candy paint. Are they somewhat translucent?
RodneyBad Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Now how cool is THAT?! Very Cool.. Fantastic work. looks like it belongs..
Dr. Cranky Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Interesting. Hope you make more progress soon.
jeffs396 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Very cool! I thought the same when I first saw one of these 1:1s waay back when...this baby needs a lid on it
Len Woodruff Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Darin are you going to have someone cast this?
Lownslow Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 nice x2 on the cast is was gonna swap a viper roof on mine
Chuck Most Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 I think Reliable Resins casts a coupe body, but it looks a bit different from what Darin has cooking, IIRC.
BKcustoms Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Great Idea! I cant wait to see some color on it.
torinobradley Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Awesome idea and execution! If it were me, I'd paint it just like the original Daytonas. Make people look twice... I remember taking the tour at Shelby's factory near Las Vegas when they were building them. As the guy was telling us they only came in silver and the only color option was the stripe, a black one rolled into the shop behind him... But, they weren't as cool as seeing CSX2000...
drball Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 If Shelby ever sees this he will probably resurrect the car. You have a gift on how improve a design. You should open a 1/25 design studio.
