racerx24 Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 I wanna do opening doors on my tamiya audi and i need to know what all i need to do to get this done. I dont wanna screw this up cause this is a very nice model i just wanna take it to the next step of cool and custom. Any help and pics would be greatly appreciated
jeffs396 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Glad you're gonna build it Nick! Use a new #11 blade, work slowly & patiently, you could even mask off the surrounding area for a little protection. Once you've got an established "groove", flip over the blade, using the back edge to remove a whisker of styrene with every pass. Practice cutting out a door on a scrap body until you're comfortable if necessary
charlie8575 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Nice job cutting those doors out. Charlie Larkin
Foxer Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 I remember in the 80's a black market Quatro that was always at my mechanics shop whenever I went. He (the mechanic) brought cars from Germany and made them "legal". This one was the ugliest color I ever saw .. a medium brown that just made the car look like Grandpas. I was stealth, I guess .. and fast! I'm keeping tuned in here .. doors look like a nice cut out.
racerx24 Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 I think i figured out the doors i am trying gull wing doors on a audi
racerx24 Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 Gull wings are out gonna try normal doors
racerx24 Posted October 17, 2011 Author Posted October 17, 2011 Well here it is my 1980's audi quattro with lambo doors
Dominik Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) It should be ready? Yet? Very fast...within three days... you cutted out the doors very well and now you "lost" the frames do the lambostyle? thats is a pity... could you post some pictures, how you made the doorsuspensions? Do you give the model a clear coat? it looks dull...for a custom it must have a shiny paintwork. My opinion. Edited October 17, 2011 by Dominik
racerx24 Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 I had to lose the frames due to a kitten that likes to play and chew on everything.
racerx24 Posted October 23, 2011 Author Posted October 23, 2011 I wanted the dull look so it looked like it sat outside in the sunlight and had that fade look. As for the doors mounts i used hinges from a 67 impala. I will try to get some pics of the door mounts
