Lanny Haas Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 (edited) got me the new Hudson, thought I'd build a very used and neglected Beater, But I noticed that the wheel base seems off as I wanted to remove one of the skirts, and found that the rear wheel sits back farther than the one here of a real Hudson. Either the skirt is too long or the rear end to far back, Its installed per the instructions Lot of bare metal foil here on this one this was tricky Edited October 15, 2011 by Lanny Haas
Dr. Cranky Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 LONG LIVE RUST, and in this case GRUNGE too! Love it. I am delighted to see the first few rounds of these kits built up rusty and gunky. Fabulous! EYEGORE is very happy.
59 Impala Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Good lookin Hudson ya got there Lanny. Nice weathering job ifin ya ask me. Dan
Lanny Haas Posted October 15, 2011 Author Posted October 15, 2011 Thanks Dr. I'm into the lost and forgotten
jeffs396 Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Very cool Lanny! I noticed (as did others) the same wheelbase thing on my gasser build...not sure what the issue is
Foxer Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Looking at this .. and considering all the models built up here I would check the chassis installation since the front look as far off as the rear. This has never been mentioned as a problem with this kit. Sorry, but I have not built mine yet. The weathering on yours is awesome!
Tom Setzer Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Nice old rusted and neglected beater! CHEERS! Tom
Lanny Haas Posted October 16, 2011 Author Posted October 16, 2011 Tom I'm building mine with the front wheels turned, that why it looks off in the front. the chassis fits real snug in the body and everything fits where the are suppose to. Im thinking that the skirt might be scribed into the body wrong.
Chuck Most Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 I have heard from Dave Metzner that the cut marks for the skirt will be revised on later runs of the kit. As for your build, love it. Looks 'terrible' in all the right ways!
Jon Cole Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Looks like the rear skirts are fine. It's the axle that needs to be moved forward... assuming the body to frame architecture is the same for the '49 to '54 years.
Harry P. Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Nice to see this model being built up in so many different ways!
GrandpaMcGurk Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Here's a link that explains a little about the frame, rear fender skirt etc. http://ateupwithmotor.com/family-cars/193-step-down-hudsons.html
Chuck Most Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 (edited) Looks like the rear skirts are fine. It's the axle that needs to be moved forward... assuming the body to frame architecture is the same for the '49 to '54 years. I've wondered if the wheelbase is a bit off on the kit. The Hornets did run the same wheelbase from '48 to '54, and as far as I know the body length stayed about the same as well. Edited October 16, 2011 by Chuck Most
John Teresi Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 lanny......I luv what your doing with this build......your weathering is AWESOME man.
