Several people have given me an earful regarding my comments on the Dan Wheldon thread, so I think I need to say something (the thread is locked, but it's still there if anyone wants to see what I said).

Obviously my comments offended some of you. I've received emails and PMs from both former and current members, and it's not been pretty. One current member has even said he's quitting the forum because of what I said.

So for the record, I want to apologize to everyone who was offended by my comments. In hindsight, I would have been much smarter to not post my opinion. Sometimes it's better to keep one's opinion to oneself, and this was one of those times. Believe me, in all the years I've been a moderator here, my goal has been to try to avoid trouble, not to cause it! So for causing this uproar, I'm sorry. It was not my intent to "stir the pot," or to cause a problem, but obviously, that's what happened, and for that I'm sorry.

However, I want to be clear on one thing: I'm not apologizing for my opinion. I'm apologizing for the fact that I should have known better and kept my mouth shut, rather than post a controversial opinion that was sure to get people riled up. I should have known better, and I'm sorry about that.

Being a mod is tricky... I have opinions just like the rest of you do, but for the sake of the forum I need to remember that posting my opinion is not always a good idea.

No worries, Harry I won't hold it against you.

The cat though he's a different story. (LOL)

(edit: I have deleted my part of that controversial thread.)

I too have made statements that backfired on me, and my attempts to smooth the situation only made them worse, especially if I was in a room full of women. I'm just hoping that others will be gracious enough to accept your apology in a positive manner, and remember that we all make mistakes, and use bad judgement. It's been said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first tire iron".

Harry, it takes a big man to realize his missteps and for that I will say thank you. As you mentioned, you were stating your opinion and some of us, myself included, took you to task over that. The fact that we both have our views, can state them here, and still get along says alot about how this forum is run and the type of people here.

You are correct in that being a moderator and having an opinion is not easy but I will say to date, you have done a great job of keeping them separate outside of the previously mentioned post.

Thanks, Mike. I appreciate your understanding.

The thing I have to work at is remembering that as a moderator, I have a responsibility to avoid controversy. So I can't just spout off whenever I feel like it. Lesson learned. ;)

Gentleman, I already had to get rid of one post from this thread that would have eventually ended in some form of argument. Harry has apologized. MOVE ON PLEASE.

I just wanted to apologize, not cause even more problems! I'll lock this now, and it'll be the last of it you hear from me.
