Chuck Most Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 A lot of the responses here indicate that the original post was misunderstood. He wasn't asking about bad kits. That's too easy and obvious. He was asking about kits like those awful early mid 80s AMT Nascar cars. They looked like actual kid's toys. Fantastic example there! Those looked an awful lot like dollar store toy cars, too. The Buick did have a usable front clip, but they were pretty hopeless other than that.
MikeMc Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Well c'mon... that car was just meant for a fake wind up key! TRUST ME........IT NEEDED ONE!!!! ;)
Casey Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I would suggest that the original wood, metal and plastic model kits produced in the '50s and the promotional scale model cars given away at dealerships were in fact toys, intended to be played with by children.
Greg Myers Posted October 20, 2011 Author Posted October 20, 2011 Thanx for the link Christian! I had no idea that there were that many Tom Daniels kits! Some of those kits were actually pretty cool. "Not that there's anything wrong with that."
randx0 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 The point was driven home more at the NNL North when someone on the primer table was converting a pathetic Palmer Corvette into a custom and it was brilliant. Rather than trying to salvage the Corvette look, he was discarding the recognizable accuracies and embracing the inaccuracies for a totally different looking custom with half the work already done. Toy or radical custom I guess depends on what you do with it. That was my Palmer corvette thank you so much for remembering it.I always like trying to turn something decent or at least slightly more believable out of stuff that is not your standard fair, including those toy like semi trucks Mr. Martin mentioned above, I find it fun. another that hasn't been mentioned is the carnation promo trucks .

randx0 Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 If Lunajammer What trucks are these, please? disabled modeler Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I don't mind the toyish designs of some kits...they can always be modified to be better or just to enjoy a quick easy build. I like the Tom Daniels series kits they build pretty easily and most parts actually fit....promos like them too, even damaged ones they can always be built/rebuilt as models.

I do realize you did some severe tinkering. I have seen and admired your work for a long time.
Chuck Most Posted October 21, 2011 Posted October 21, 2011 I did think of one decent kit that seemed to have been geared more toward kids- the AMT Resuce 911 van. It was the old MPC Dodge van kit, but with a toyish 'don't sue us for copyright infringement' generic grille slapped on.
Chuck Most Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Or how about those Jada plastic kits from a few years ago?
Chuck Most Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Know what? I want every one of those kits!
RodneyBad Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Know what? I want every one of those kits! If they were 1/25-1/24 scale, I could live with that..
PirateRN Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I remember building the Poison Pinto when I was a kid. I think I would build just about anything " car-like ".
