BigBad Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I really like the metallic orange you put in there, it really picks up the "root beer" brown! I used root beer and a sand colored beige on my Freightliner coe and used another darker beige tone in there, and it does not stand out as nicely as your Pete. Good job on that paint man! Nice clean cut lines.
catd11rpusher Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Dennis nice job on the paint job, question, how do you do multi-paint jobs? can you give me alittle info. I'm new to this or where I can get the intel. Agian nice job on your paint work
cowboysevens Posted December 20, 2011 Author Posted December 20, 2011 Mike I painted the lightest color first, bronze. Then I taped off what I wanted to stay bronze. Then shoot a layer of clear coat over the tape. Then I shot the next darkest color , flaming orange. Then I taped off where I wanted the orange to stay and shot another layer of clear over the tape, then I shot the root beer brown. And when you pull the tape off your stripes are there. I use tamiya tape it seems to work the best and doesn't leave residue , shooting the clear seals the edges of the tape so ya don't get any bleeding between colors. If you have alil edge between colors just knock it down real gently I hope this helps
scale trucker Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 cowboy..that is lookin real fine nice paint..

Truck parts Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Dennis , Thank you for the painting and tape tip. I always hated trying two or more colors on the kit. I will try your tip. Thank you
BigBad Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 (edited) paint clear tape, paint clear tape, paint clear tape. You clear between colors? I didn't know about that little bit of info. is it so the next color doesn't seep under the tape? If so, do you have to cut around the tape (so you don't lift the clearcoat along with it) once the whole job is done? Edited December 22, 2011 by Z06Bob

Yes put a shot of clear between colors over the tape, it keeps the next color from running and leaves a crisp clean line. I have not had any problems with peeling. I hve found that the tamiya tape is the best, its sicks great but leaves no residue.
