sjordan2
I don't quite understand this. Can you please define what you mean by "fake" box art? The way I see it, any box that doesn't show a build of the actual kit and uses either a photo of the 1:1 or a painting is a fake, since it doesn't represent what's inside the box. Edsel-Dan
Others I know of are the 68? Park Lane 4dr sedan of Steve Magarrett Hawaii Five-O Columbo's car??, The Buick from Brodrick Croford's Highway Patrol, and I believe on of the Mayberry Fords too. They were done like the Rockford Firebird., ie, ij the style of the current box art at the time they would have been produced, and in Brands acording to who produced the kit closest to the model depicted. The ADAM-12 box was an MPC box, I believe the FIVE-O Merc was AMT, and the Buick might have been PMC or Ideal, it was not a Big brand name like AMT or Revell! As far as I know, this crafter no longer offers these 'Phantom" kit boxes. The other magazine ran a little article about them a few years ago. Some have been listed on evilbay, but, I am not sure how long ago the last one was on.

Ben
Thanks Harry, great reading & pics. That Duel kit look mighty fine ! I knew someone would beat me to it. All these boxes were made by a gentleman that was a graphic designer. I worked with him many years ago on making boxes of kits that I wanted, that never existed. One of them being the Blue Mule Ford W9000 cabover from the movie White Line Fever. We tried to do the box art on a box the same size as an AMT truck kit so it would fit in with the rest of them. We ran into problems with getting things printed so it never came to be . I do however have two of the "Duel" Peterbilt kits. The bad thing is that the cellophane is shrinking and constricting the box. That and the boxes are empty. I have thought about opening them, filling them with scrap parts trees and then resealing them just to give the illusion of there being a kit in the box. The Duel boxes are small. if there were a kit in them, it would probably scale out to about 1/48 or so.
