I know it's a pain, but the #11 blade still works best for me. I have used a jewelers saw (fine bladed jug saw) but that is hard to keep straight.

I just went the glue problem with hinges on a van I'm working on. They are are not piano but similar .. use 3 sections of tube. I'd say JB Weld is the best chance. Be sure to roughen the surfaces a bit for a good grip. The link is the page where I started showing my hinge ordeal ... about 2/3 of the way down. It goes on for some time as I fought the troubles I had gluing them on. My solution may not work for you, but hopefully you'll get something out of my experience.

I know there are aftermarket piano hinges around, but don't know who it is that makes them.

i use dental floss to cut - drill a tiny hole for a starting point - use a strait pin and waddel out the hole from back side to get the floss in easyer - then just back and forth - takes out way less materil than a #11 blade?

glue 30 min slow-cure epoxy is what i use to bond metal to plastic.

hope this helps mike

yeah i just looked at that your bonding your tubes to plastic pieces then glueing it to the door?? im trying to bond mine right to the edge of the door of course truck doors are straight though? Another way i thought of trying was using auto body filler(bondo) which i have used on models before and kinda use it as a epoxy to bond the tubing

Craig,

Try these?

from the Model Car Garage. I have used them quite a few times for opening doors and butterfly hoods. They are a bit tricky but give a good result.

I ve had my doubts about these hinges until you posted this. Do you have pictures of these before bending and after? That would surely convince me.

JB Weld is probably your best bet. It's a slow curing high strength epoxy. I wouldn't think body filler would have the same strength ... and it's sort of brittle.

Cut the doors with photo etch micro saws and the string dental floss method work well. The Model car Garage hinges are very nice. Replace the wire that comes in their kitwith .015 brass wire. Follow the instructions! Take your time. use JB weld to attach they work. I have found them frustrating to use. The Stainless steel is not very forgiving. A photo etch bending tool may be helpful but I don't have one.

Dave, that is one nice old Pete replica! i like everything about it, the functional beam rear suspension, the poseable front axle, that butterfly hood, opening cab doors, the carpet on the cab floor, the hinged mudflaps, the Detroit 8V71... Thanks for the pictorial, that is useful. I like the scale look of those hinges, it's perfect. I need to buy myself some more patience first! Haha! Seriously the door hinges are great, I am going to try them out. You also gave me an idea about rotating KFS wheels on my next Italeri builds... Thanks man!

i actually found a awesome way of doing this re a friend i talk to! Ok heres how it goes take a new blade in a xacto knife use the back side of the blade!! I know that dont sound right but trust me i just used it today on a revell peterbilt 60 inch sleeper doors usually it taKES ABOUT 6 swipes the whole way around if it dont pop out then use the blade side . Next take a file or sand paper clean your edges. Now for the hinge i take small tubing i cant remember the od but super glue a about a 1/2 inch on the edge of the door then set your door in place put a piece of tape in behind to hold it in place then i take about 2 3/16 pieces of tubing run a piece of wire thru the first 3/16 piece then thru the 1/2 piece you glued to the door then stick the other piece on. then super glue you 2 small pieces to the body once the glue sets go back with duco cement or epoxy then their you go hinged doors this all takes time dont rush it :P

I just cut the doors out of and AMT 359 cab and I also purchaced a set of MCG-2204 hinges. I read that they are tricky to use but are really nice hinges. If anyone that has used them before can give me any tips about them that the instructions don't mension, please let me know. I want to try to bend them and install the doors without messing anything up. Thanks
