Hi folks

Almost done with this old kit and I´ve have to make more off these FED´s. some changes from the kit i done.I did not like the front wheels, the spokes just to heavy in my taste, so I used etched ones from Parts Sopwith Camel etc 1/32 scale from Parts.I found other slicks in the spareboxe and used them as well.

The paint is Testors "sunburst" over Humbrol gold, and the decals from the kit. Alot off parts was decromed and fixed up and recromed with Alclad "crome"

I have still the office to detail up.

Looks great! I'm about 99% done with this kit and it really tested my skills. Did you use the kit supplied headers? I'm gonna try to scratchbuild some.

Hi I did not use the supplied headers, there was to much work on them to get them fit, so I made new ones from Evergreens Pc tubings.

NIce job on the front wheels. The ones in the box do look silly. Question for you. I'm not a drag racing person. Why does the left tire have the ring and the right tire not?

I have no idea why the ring is there,speedometer?,I don´t know.

Brad that ring on the front rims is used for when they are staging their car and getting ready to run down the quarter-mile. There is a set of beams on ground at the starting line that the wheel has to break in order to turn on the lights. There is a pre-stage light and a stage light. Once the driver rolls into them the starter activates the green light so they can make a pass. If they didnt have the ring the light would pass right thru so the ring is there to break the light beam since there isnt much there with the spokes. I hope that helps.

Ooooooh, great, thanks. It was killing me not knowing. I love building these drag racing cars but it's frustrating not knowing what the parts you're working with actually do. I'm only about 2 months into drag racing fandom. I went to my first NHRA race in September and now I'm hooked.

Actually I believe the ring was more for breaking the beam at the top end. At the starting line, the tire could break the beam ok but back in the late 60's when the fuelers were going faster and faster, they were having trouble with errors at the finish line. The small rim and tire didn't have enough surface area to consistently break the beam and the beam would get broken by the rear tires, thus resulting in a longer E.T. and sometimes a loss of the race. So they added the ring to increase that surface area so that the front tire could better break the finish line beam at 200+ mph.
