little dog daddy Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I'm doing my first rat rod and only my 4th model. Its a 1/25 1929 Ford truck by Lindburg, I'm looking for a big wired motor. If anyone knows where i can find one that would be gratly appreciated.
SuperStockAndy Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/crate_engines/ford_performer_438.shtml Why not?
little dog daddy Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Haha that would definately supply me with enoughy horse power... But i would have to make a bigger motor compartment.
Kris Morgan Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 You can always use the kit motor and, wire it with a distributor from here www.madmodeling.com
Jantrix Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Dillon, you are going to have to give us a little better description of your needs. In case there is any confusion, we don't buy these motors already wired. If you want one you're going to have to learn to do it yourself.
Erik Smith Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Aren't here some prebuilt/prewired engines available? I think I saw some at hobbytown usa once. But, as Rob stated, most everybody wires their own and it is a skill you should learn - better results and greater satisfaction!
highway Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I don't know if I'm guessing right or not, but I think Dillon might just be referring to an electric motor because if it is the kit I'm thinking of, it has no opening hood and an area for motorization like early Japanese kits. If I'm right and it's the same kit I have (don't ask how, I don't even know where I got it! ) it comes with gears to attach to the rear axle. I would say you should be able to find a suitable motor from hobby shops that sell train and R/C supplies, or you could even pick up a cheap R/C at Walmart and steal the motor out of it. As a little advise too Dillon, I agree with Rob's comment, a little more information and a clearer description will help get you better information. Don't take our comments the wrong way, clearer descriptions will get you clearer answers and welcome to the forum.
Bridgebuster Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) The PTX engines come built and wired. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Parts-/166798/i.html?_catref=1&_ssn=mfpilot&_trksid=p3286.c0.m1538 Good luck on your build. Edited November 18, 2011 by Bridgebuster
little dog daddy Posted November 18, 2011 Author Posted November 18, 2011 Has anyone used the ptx engines? And if so, where do i get a transmission for it?
Bridgebuster Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I have not used them yet, but have 2 of them on my shelf. I get trannys from Kris Morgan who posted above. MAD Detailing
Jantrix Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I just took a look at those PTX engines. http://www.phoenixtoys.com/Update%20Site/HobbyGear/28001N.htm They do not compare a carefully built kit engine at all. They look very much like little toys, with rubberized hoses and wires. I'll pass.
Kaleb Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 How about a parts pak? You have to wire it yourself. This is a ford 427
Bridgebuster Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I just took a look at those PTX engines. http://www.phoenixto...Gear/28001N.htm They do not compare a carefully built kit engine at all. He could plug in one of the PTX mills until he gets a few builds under his belt, then swap in an engine HE built and wired. Only stopgap measure I could think of.
little dog daddy Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) Well I really would rather build one instead of buying one but I just don't have a motor to build and wire that I would like in there. If anyone has some spare parts or motors you wouldn't mind getting rid of im interested. Edited November 19, 2011 by little dog daddy
Swifster Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 '66 Nova kits are plentiful and come with a sweet little SBC...and it starts a parts box.
