Harry P. Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I know that Dave the "Model King" issues re-releases of old kits and sells them under the "Model King" name, but I've never understood the details of the relationship between Model King and the kit manufacturers. Why did AMT and others let their old kits be issued under another name? Why don't they simply reissue them themselves? Who actually manufactures these kits, and where did they get the tooling from? Are Model King kits made using the actual old company tooling, or are they "copies" of the original kits? I think it's great that these old kits are seeing the light of day again, but I wonder how it all came about. Can anyone provide a clear explanation? :?
Jairus Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Model King, Stevens International and anyone with the bucks can get a run of model kits out of AMT or Revell. All you gotta do is tell them what you want, provide the box artwork and pay'm. They then deliver you 10 pallets of model car kits boxed and ready to go. You, on the other hand, get to sell them!

So it's that easy? You just pay them to become a reseller?
crispy Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Jairus pretty much summed it up in a nutshell. Some of the kits Dave has been releasing have a little more into them. He'll find a tool and see some of it is damaged. He has paid for some of these tools to be repaired. But basically, it's about like Jairus said.
Zoom Zoom Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Speaking of The Model King, I see that Model Roundup has the MK '71 T Bird in stock 8)
jbwelda Posted May 16, 2007 Posted May 16, 2007 i believe the model king may be finding out the truth behind this axiom: know how to end up with a small fortune in the model/music/reggae business? start with a large fortune. so true so true.
