yer flag is upside down. that's disrespectful.

It's also a distress signal and that is where this county is at ! But that's for another forum.

I like the Fords...cool work..would like to see more of them..

I agree with everyone about the inverted flag though.Your letting whoever or what ever is bothering you ruin the symbol for you..Thats too bad,and only makes you look unpatriotic..There are better ways to protest..

doesnt make you look unpatriotic, it makes you look like a realist. no doubt about it the country is in distress. flying the flag upside down is appropriate in my eyes. we need help over here.

besides since when is an avatar someone chooses anyones business but their own? next thing you know everyone will have something to say about everyone elses. i see lots i have objections to but i havent said anything specific and dont plan to.

let me add one more thing here too:

>Please correct the avatar as we are all good AMERICANS here!

maybe you skipped this part of history class but america came to be through protest over an unjust system of government, unjust taxation and many other causes roughly parallel to a lot of things happening today. to tell someone not to protest or youre not a "good" american is the height of ugly-americanism in my eyes. today they come to get your neighbor and you dont protest, tomorrow they come to get you but by then there wont be anyone to protest.

or maybe youre being sarcastic in that case i apologize.

all moderation in moderation needs to be the byword of moderators.

ok enough of that, for now.

cool rods there.

I also find the use of the upside down flag offensive, but probably not for the same reason. The upside down flag is used in battle when a unit is in need of help; to use the symbol in this way is not IMHO an appropriate protest.

I will be honest upfront here and say I’m not a big fan of the Bush administration, but that doesn’t mean I think our country is in distress. America, is not the government, it is those that it governs. The people of our country are good people, and in times of difficulty will pull together. The flag is our symbol. It stands for us. Your family, your neighbors, and what we believe in.

I will be the first to admit we have problems, but by world standards those problems are minimal. In many countries you would be imprisoned or worse just for your minor “protest†here. I will not ask that you change your avatar, because I don’t feel I have the right to. But the people who own and run this site want you to, and out of respect for them you should, just as when I visit a friend’s house for dinner, I won’t muddy the conversation with my political views.

If you want to protest, I suggest you do it in a forum where it will actually make a difference. I call my senators and congressmen so often they recognize me by my voice. I have sat in their offices, and I have expressed my concerns with them on all matter of issues from minimum wage, to copyright law & royalties, to my views on the war, and terrorism. The fact that my voice can be heard with no fear of retribution proves we are not in distress.

William,

Do I have to remind you that freedom of speech is not free! It was paid for by millions of people who gave their lives for its purchase. This forum is not a free-for-all for anything you want to post or say. We have a certain decorum that must be maintained here or chaos will surly rue the day.

The upside down U.S. flag is an official signal of distress. It is not meant to be, and is not officially recognized as any type of disrespect when so displayed for the right reasons. To the contrary, here is the relevant part of the US Code of Laws regarding how to fly the flag when in distress:

THE FLAG CODE

Title 36, U.S.C., Chapter 10

As amended by P.L. 344, 94th Congress

Approved July 7, 1976

§ 176. Respect for flag: No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

(a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.

Most individuals who have served in the military service of our nation will (or should) recognize this signal.

As a result of the many traitors and enemies we as a free people have, both foreign and domestic, as a result of the many unconstitutional acts, legislation and atrocities passed and/or committed against US citizens and their life, liberty and property, and as a result of policies that have allowed (and continue to allow) enemies of this nation to enter in large numbers through a porous border policy, I believe the life, liberty and property of US Citizens are in dire danger and distress.

The basic rules are no personal attacks and no foul language. Political speech and discussion on religious subjects are to be kept to the Rants and Raves section. If James2 wants to post a picture of the disgraced flag there then so be it but I see no distress where life is in dire danger. Using the upside down flag as his avatar makes it available in ANY thread and any forum subject he posts in. Thus it ends up being posted and making a statement in the wrong forum. Avatars with objectionable images will not be allowed on MCM forums.

This is a model car forum and we should all be mindful of this.

If you smoke, and you're invited to join some people at their house for a get-together, and they don't allow smoking in their house, would you refrain from smoking because you're a guest in their house and you're expected to obey their rules? Or do you begin a loud discussion on how you have a right to smoke wherever you want to?

Same idea here. We're all guests on this forum. None of us has a "right" to be here and say whatever we want...this is a private enterprise, not a public square. Big difference.

I have a lot of things I'd protest too, but there are more appropriate outlets for our political voices to be heard.

OK, just to set the record straight, I have changed the aviator. But only because the MCMF has asked me to. I meant no offence, I am extremely patriotic and am da*m proud of my country and the people who serve to keep it. My political views would not of been shared here, I joined this site because I like modeling and wanted to share that interest with others. I will not apologize for the upside down flag because if you think for one second that this country is not in trouble, you are part of the problem. If you all can't deal with that then you know what to do...

Posted

For the record, I agree with you! Our country is in SERIOUS trouble in many areas, and it'd entirely appropriate to discuss those issues. Heck, get me started on all that's wrong or screwed up in this country and I can go for HOURS.

But it's best to keep our political views in the appropriate forum, and that's "Rants and Raves". Good choice to change your avatar. It doesn't mean you're any less passionate in your views, just that you've agreed to play by the rules here...as we all have.

BTW...I'd be very interested to hear what you have to say, if you want to post in the Rants and Raves section. Nobody loves a good political debate more than I do! 8)

Ok maybe it's hard to quantify who loves a political debate more But I bet we're pretty close to tied on this one. :D

Mark, YOU are controversial... you don't need to add the avatar to make it so... :D

Hey guys, add me to the list!

By the way, I am thinking that this thread should be moved to the Rants and Raves section due to the fact that the bulk of it is OT! Or, I can delete the ###### that is OT.... Or, since James2 has yet to post HIS NAME as requested, I can delete the whole bloody thing!

Darin and Mark...and anyone else...I'll meet you in Rants and Raves! :D

Seriously, though...one of the things that drew me here and caused me to sign on is the fact that we DO have a dedicated area here to mix it up a bit. I think that's a great idea, and I've already gotten into a couple of interesting discussions...right, Darin?

There are some very opinionated, very passionate yet also very well-spoken and thoughtful people here, and I enjoy the opportunity to talk to them here.
