asterisk Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Does anyone know a source for good budd 2 hole wheels? I haven't built any trucks in a long while so I'm not caught up on the current aftermarket suppliers. Spaulding lists a few but they don't have a photo. Thanks for any leads!
Old Albion Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 Dave, Try this web site. They do 2 hole steer and drivers. http://www.kitformservices.com/tq.html Parts TQ59 and TQ60
Ayatollah Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I am also to search of 1/25 class 8 wheels, but would like something in the US. I need Budd 2 holes, 5 holes, and old Super spyders, anyone here in the US that I can order from? Spaulding says they don't have anything yet, AITM... same thing. I've found about 10 shut-down website links for 1/25 truck stuff.
Jim B Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 You could try Daniel Gailloux at plaskit_resin@yahoo.ca. He doesn't have a Website, but if you ask, he'll email you his catalogue. I haven't used any of his stuff yet, but several modelers on the board have and it looks like good quality castings.
mackinac359 Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 I've ordered from Kit Form Services in the UK. A bit more expensive with the difference between the dollar and pound. Shipping was just as fast as with a USA company. http://www.kitformservices.com Tim
Ayatollah Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 Thanks for everyone that helped me find the stuff. I was contemplating asking on the "other" forum but it's so dead. Mainly just lowered S-10 related malarkey. Kitform stuff is superb and they are very well organized. Plaskit did indeed e-mail me a super nice Excel catalog and I am getting some stuff from them, probably much more than I planned on. I like AITM too. If I can stay halfway healthy I'm going to do a truck or two and haven't done one since BJ and the bear rig came out. Thanks again!
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 What's goin' on... I'll use an AMT rim (10 hole chrome) remove the chrome - (original issue kit rims bleach will remove the chrome on later reissue kits Castrol Super Clean will eat it off in a few days) and use round stock styrene to fill the holes. Insert the rod in the hole and then use a solvent glue ( Plastruct,Tenex7-R,Ambroid) this will fill in the gaps so to say. Leave two holes open. Once set up trim the styrene rods flush then use a Dremel tool w/a small bur bit and open up those two holes to an oval shape. Spray w/ a heavy solids primer to hide any imperfections and paint white w/ enamel. (acrylic Tamiya) will show imperfections if any. If ya really wanna get detailed use fine brass wire to make a valve stem. Here's a 359 w/ BUDDS on it I made as described above. http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?...&p=74385760 Good Luck!!!!
asterisk Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 Thanks everyone for the leads. The Kitform wheels look ok but not great. The outer rim seems large and out of scale but probably fixable after some time with some sandpaper. I'll use an AMT rim (10 hole chrome) remove the chrome - That trick works great for the rears but the fronts have a different angle on the surface from the lugs to the rim where the holes are. Your example looks great by the way.
chuckyr Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Ok, I used Clint Freeman's wheels for this model. They were scaled for the Italeri truck kits (1/24th). These are 5 hole steel wheels, but he offered 2 hole steel wheels also. They were the best reproduction I have ever seen of these wheels. Unfortunately Clint stopped selling 2 years ago and the wheels were discontinued 5 or 6 years ago. Dave Natale purchased the old Jim Etter AIM line and has been expanding the offerings quite regularly. He plans to offer some wheels. Check out his site. http://www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/news.html
Old Albion Posted July 18, 2007 Posted July 18, 2007 I don't know if anyones seen these yet but AITM now have a range of 2 and 5 hole wheels to work with the ertl kit tyres. These wheels look great! http://www.aitruckmodels.com/pages/kitsparts.html
