Bruce Poage Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 While cutting apart the front and back windshield of a '66 Buick I unknowlingly scratched the inside of the windshield. How do I remove these scratches. I know there is a way. Thanks.
envious8420 Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 how severe is the scratch? a micromesh polishing kit works very well on minor scratches and imperfections.
a/gass Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 if micromesh cant fix it it's broke in half lol it'll take glue blobs out (so much tube glue it has made soft spots)the kit's come with 3200 to 12000 wet grit cloths - if the scratch is real deep like you took a #11 blade with a broke tip useing the back of it and dragin it accros the glass you might need to start with a 1500 or less grit cloth or paper to fix it.
Bruce Poage Posted December 21, 2011 Author Posted December 21, 2011 While we are on the subject, how about small a small string of epoxy on clear plastic. Do you suggest the same process?
a/gass Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 yes - start with a #17 blade (the flat screwdriver looking)with out handle (use fingers)shiney side up - machined side to glass - at angle close to glass - push across digging goop off glass wile not letting corners of blade digg into glass - as soon as done start with 2400 get a allover dull look and move through grits with 10 or more strokes till you hit 12000 or 18000 unlike paint you wont need wax when done.
Mike Kucaba Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 And be careful. Clear styrene is very brittle. Make sure you are supporting it with something underneath where you are sanding .
