Our family tradition is for each of us to select a Christmas ornament the reflects a subject that is in some way special for us this year. My son purchased the first car that he has to pay for and he got a rather nice late model 328i BMW. After hunting high and low for such a Christmas ornament and not finding one, I decided to fire up the Sherline and make one. Well that turned out to be a bit of a challenge. Cutting a dome inside of a ring without a computer driven machine involved some mental gymnastics and some long forgotten math skills. Any way, here is the result.

Merrry Christmas to all!! I hope all your modeling dreams come true!

That's beautiful!!! You've inspired me to summon all those old tricks I learned watching 'ER' and 'Marcus Welby', to fire up my Dremel and perform hip replacement surgery on my poor destitute Uncle who couldn't afford to have it done professionally. "Merry Christmas, Uncle Bill!!" :P

looks great but im afraid your son will be mighty upset when he sees that emblem is missing from his hood

LOL, actually the center is a piece from the center of the wheel rims. Unlike anything else from BMW it was only a couple of bucks at the dealer. On the other hand the chunk of aluminum cost me $10 from the scrap yard. Cutting the convex shape to support it, was the real challenge.

Most folks would have taken a hood ornament and drilled a hole in it and called it done! What you did was create something your son will cherish long after the car is gone, nice job there Pete!

Merry Christmas
