This is the last 74 I have to restore for now, The paint was custom mixed for me at my local auto parts store, I had alot of work into getting this car back into original shape, Both of the A pillers were cracked, And the paint was awfull, So I stripped it, Repaired the busted pillers, Puttied ,And sanded them back untill it looked factory, Then primed and wet sanded the entire car , I used Automotive Enamel shot right out of the can, 3 mist coats, And one medium coat, After 10 minutes I sprayed on the Testors One Coat Lacquer, Yes over enamel, I misted it on, let the first 2 coats almost set up, Then one medium coat to finish it off, If I would have put the clear on heavy I would have ended up with a big mess, I got the paint from O'Rielly's , I gave them the paint code, And 2 days later I had my paint. That paint is worth the money, As I think this one turned out the best, Enjoy.74cutblue1.jpg74cutblue2.jpg74cutblue3.jpg

Looks good. I got in the habit of using DupliColor over cheap Colorplace enamel primer with good results. Although at one point I waited too long to spray the DupliColor and it ate through the primer. Haven't had the guts to try again. Been using DupliColor primer since.

I Alway use the Duplicolor primers, The paint is Dupont Enamel. I never use any of the cheap stuff, $6 Is worth it to get a nice paint job,And not ruin your model with cheap paint.

It would have looked better fully detailed, But I went for the promo look on all three of these 74's, If I can find a couple more 74's, I'll make full detailed cars out of them, I also have a 73 to redo,But thats going to have to wait untill next month, Also I plan on getting a few of those IMC 75'S Myself.

So the Dupont is in a spray can? We haven't had anywhere around here that carried Dupont, but we have an O'Riellys opening soon.

Yes it is, All they need is the paint code, And they place the order while you're there, The can is 12 oz, And cost $26 out the door, But you have enough paint to use on atleast 4-6 cars. So it's worth the price, If you think about it, MCW Paint is $8-10 plus shipping for the little jars , Plus you have to have an airbrush to use it, I'm lazy, If I can use a spray can, Thats what I like to use, Plus with this paint I used, I had alot more control of the paint, No spits, Or big gobs of metallic coming out through an air brush, I wasted an entire bottle of MCW Paint on a 70 Nova conversion because of that. I got lucky with the other 2 Cutlass' , It hit and miss with me and an airbrush. This perticular color on this car also looks like the 71-74 Mopar "True Blue" to me.
