Very nice Nova build, engine looks very nice. Paintjob turned out awesome, can't wait to see this finished. Only one thing... I've been looking for it long time in other '66 Nova kits too. It's not builder's mistake or anything like that- but those rear tires are somehow looking like too big. Maybe it's because car is too high, as Pro Street cars are usually lowered. But anyway, as I said, that's not builder's mistake, very nice job Stuart with this Nova build. B)

thanks for the good feedback.

ya know what mate ... i was thinking the same thing when i moched her up . but i was advised early in the build to "open the rear fender wells" but i got all confused trying to work out how to do it so i gave up lol . i did want to lower the back end but couldnt seem to find away of doing it . as i am only on 7th build ever lol

Opening those rear fender wells would have been maybe good choice, but I think it's better to go with those, than taking risk to fail opening rear fender wells. I can say, that making two symmetrical ones, is hard...

I built this kit too, and I used some other tires (they are street tires). Don't know if they were included in that Older release or not, but with them rear end looks lower... Anyway very nice job buddy, keep it going.

the rear tires i used are included with this kit but i think i will have another look and see if i can drop that butt down a tad lol.

thanks again

Stu ,

I didn't catch this , maybe it's not too late ! On this particular kit , the rear end is too wide . When the body is slipped onto the chassis , the rear tires have a tendency to rub on the inside of the quarter panels and prevent the body from sliding down into it's proper position .

A very simple solution to the problem is to cut the rear end off on both sides even at the outside edge of the rear shackles . You will also have to trim the metal axle down to size . Be sure to leave yourself enough of the axle to remount your rear tires through the holes in the backing plates.

This will solve your problem ! Sorry I didn't see this Build sooner , would have prevented you from having to do a bit of disassembly !

thanks for the input mate ... but i did notice that wen i did the first moch up.. and i trimmed the rear end down just a tad already... its not the slipping the body on thats stopind it from sitting lower i think the rear end needs to be droped a little bit ...

Stu and Nico ,

A very simple way to enlarge your wheel wells !

Take your rear tire and hold it against the side of your body , centering it in the existing wheel well, making sure that it is at the height that you want it . Take a sharp lead pencil and trace along the outside edge of your tire . Repeat on the opposite side of the car taking care that both sides are of the same height from the top of the quarter panel to the top of your drawn line !

Now all you have to do is grind out on the inside of the line with your Dremel tool , be patient ! Set the tool on medium speed and grind off a little bit at a time until you are even with your drawn line . Sand and smooth your edges , and there you have it , radiused wheel wells with no fuss , swearing , or pulling your hair out !

One other point , if you make a mistake when drawing your lines with the pencil , simply erase them and start over !

thankyou for that ... once my 2 little boys stop wanting cars like daddy lol... i will have to invest in a dremel.

You can achieve the same results with a sharp no 11 xacto blade ! Trick is to shave of a little bit at a time and make sure you stay with the curve . Once you have a round shape , take a strip of 220 grit sand paper as wide as your tire , drape it over the tire rough side up , put it in the wheelwell and turn it the entire length of the radius , back and forth !

That's great tip--thanks! Must try it when I need to open those rear fenders.

And for the question about chrome trim-I would say with them. Without looks like too much 80's to me.

Nice work here. I too like the color, and the combo with the White. Like your engine details too.

Good WIP, some good tips and a cool kit.
