Terry Sumner Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I know what you mean...and my back is already starting to get sore!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Loving it every minute of it, keep it going. Terry and Rob, you guys are making excellent (and fast) progress. Wow.
martinfan5 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Here is what I am going to build , I know its a Le Man car, but it fits for the build 24 hour race.
roadhawg Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Great stuff! If I wasn't working, I'd be in this too! Looks like fun!
martinfan5 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Well not off to a good start, the pirmer and the body did not like each other, and it crazed the body, its not bad, hopefully sanding should smooth it out a little bit.
Terry Sumner Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 This is where Gary Kulchock's photos are being placed of the guys at his house that are all building all at once.... http://public.fotki.com/gkulchock/6th-annual-24-hour--1/
Dr. Cranky Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Well, I hope you guys building and posting here will continue. It's giving us lots of fun and eye candy to look at. Take your vitamins and keep going!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Oh, and Terry, thanks for the link. I just befriended Gary on FOTKI.
martinfan5 Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) Well, I hope you guys building and posting here will continue. It's giving us lots of fun and eye candy to look at. Take your vitamins and keep going! Mountian dew is what I will be using to keep me going, lets just hope my 5month old will sleep thru the night tonight Edited January 28, 2012 by martinfan5
Rob McKee Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 (edited) Progress report: 1. Tires are assemble and sanded. Clear coat is now drying so I can decal the lettering. 2. Chrome is stripped from several pieces and sprayed with chrome paint. 3. Rear differential is assembled and painted. 4 Slow progress on the engine. Sorry for the bad pics Edited January 28, 2012 by Rob McKee
Dr. Cranky Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Wow, you are a brave man doing this one with a 5 month old. Hope you get lots done. We'll be watching!Rob, you are moving this one along very well. Cheers, cheers, cheers!
jeffs396 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Here's my Photobucket linky to my build progress so far: http://s920.photobucket.com/albums/ad46/jeffs396/6th%20Annual%2024HR%20build%20jeffs396/ This is REALLY going to be a challenge! Gotta go!
Rob McKee Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Moving right along: Body is masked and painted red. Slicks have been decaled and flat coated. Now I am going to let the paint setup for an hour or so then back at it.
Terry Sumner Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Had to take a break for a while and help my son fix his car...broken motor mount. So far I have the chassis about 90% complete...... Hosted on Fotki And here I just kind of did a mockup to get an idea of how it's going to sit. One thing I did change was the rear tires. The kit tires were just too misshapen to use plus they were slicks. And no one in their right mind would be driving a Surf Wagon with slicks...they'd use treaded tires. So I pirated these these from the 67 Chevelle pro streeet kit. I just had to narrow the wheels by about 3/16" to fit even though the tread width was about the same... Hosted on Fotki
Dr. Cranky Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Here's my Photobucket linky to my build progress so far: http://s920.photobuc...ild%20jeffs396/ This is REALLY going to be a challenge! Gotta go! Jeff, that's a great subject. Can't wait to see more. Take your vitamins and keep it going. Perhaps a SCRAPPLE SANDWICH might do the trick. LOL!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Terry, are you sure you don't have EYEGORE over there giving you hand. Your progress for half a day is wonderful. Looking real good. Keep the eye candy coming.
Dr. Cranky Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Rob, that paint job is looking incredible. Wow.
martinfan5 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I am falling behind here, had to make a supply run, so now I am back, just got done putting the final wet coat on the body, getting the rest of the parts painted. I will have some pics soon
Terry Sumner Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 I dunno Doc....I'm getting pretty tired already....Just lost an hour or 2 helping my son. I had to fabricate a bracket to hold the engine down in his Honda until he can go get a new top motor mount. Good thing I have a garage with all the tools... Back to the build!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 You'll be fine. Keep the faith in styrene!
Terry Sumner Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 OK...22:30 hours. I've got an honest 8 hours in this build as I lost a couple helping my son and making dinner for my wife and I. And here's where I'm at... The chassis is sitting on it's 4 wheels all glued in. The engine is in with some minor detail painting to do on the fan/supercharger belt drive and the driveshaft. Hosted on Fotki I gotta tell you...that front end was a complicated sonofagun to put together! Lot's of really small parts there! Hosted on Fotki Here's how it looks with the body on the frame. The interior tub is glued in. Now to do the interior. I think I'm going to use some flocking for the floor.... Still have to build the upper section yet... Hosted on Fotki
Terry Sumner Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Great...just had a little setback. The woodgrain decals did not stick to the side panels! Peeled right off. Maybe try the other set that came with the kit....
martinfan5 Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Terry, looking good, dont feel bad, I am having set backs as well, this new revell plastic is not liking any of my paint I am using.
Rob McKee Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Terry your car looks incredible. Keep going. I am just finishing dinner and then will be heading back to the bench.
