1320wayne Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 (edited) Well, here is the beginnings of my second diorama. My first one that I did two years ago got well away from me and by the time it was done it required two people just to move it around. This time the plan is a bit more simplistic in size. The overall theme will feature a Ford Explorer police vehicle done up in Alaska State Troopers markings, set out in the wilderness with a couple of troopers and their K-9 unit searching for an escaped convict hiding in the woods. So far I have the basic mockup with the beginning of the terrain shapes. I used a spray foam to create the basic shapes which actually boad well for shaving and shaping different contours into the overall terrain. As you can see from the preliminary pics. there will be planty of wildlife in the area including an elk, a moose and even an eagles nest at the top of a dead tree. Stay tuned for more soon. Eshaver Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Wayne , quick question , I'm curious as to what kind of a release agent one may need in order to spray the foam such as you did and be able to place it on a board like you did ............ Im wanting to do a slope like down to a lake from a road . Ed Shaver

The product adheres pretty good so I'm not sure what kind of surface you could spray this on and then be able to move it after it dries. I suppose you could do this and then use a large carving knife to slide in underneath to remove an entire section in one shot, if that's what you mean. This stuff (Great Stuff) carves really well and bodes well for shaping, which I still have plenty of shaping to do. Edited December 31, 2011 by 1320wayne
Eshaver Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Then you just applied the foam onto the Particle Board ehh............ O K, that could work . I wouldn't recomend particle board as it's already too heavy and dimensionally somwhat unstable . I would sooner recomend veeneer plywood . Ed Shaver
1320wayne Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 Here is a quick mockup of the Explorer and how it will be positioned along with one K-9 jumping out of the back along with a second next to the officer.
Mister Twister Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 This should be a good one Wayne....Will it be ready for Jacksonville?
1320wayne Posted January 2, 2012 Author Posted January 2, 2012 This should be a good one Wayne....Will it be ready for Jacksonville? I'm hoping for that. It shouldn't be a problem to get it done by then.

That should allow for easy removal
1320wayne Posted January 4, 2012 Author Posted January 4, 2012 Here is some progress on the Explorer. The paint is in order along with the start to weathering the overall finish. Afterall, this is Alaska and the scene is out in the wilderness. There's no way that a police vehicle should look clean in that terrain.
