cavejohnson Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I just bought an old Louisville kit on ebay... the box says "Ford/Caterpillar V8" I know a lot about trucks...but I've never seen that engine. It looks like a 3208 had a love child with a 8v71!
Jim B Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 It's supposed to be a 3208, but apparently it's actually an 1160 (or something like that). Ford called this engine a V200, and they were painted Ford Blue. If I remember correctly, this engine was a joint Ford/Caterpiller venture.
BigBad Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 When I was a kid in the late 70's, i saw a lot of these Ford Louisville's. My dad bought a house and had to spread a lot of landfill to make the yard level. When he ordered earth or gravel, the guy who delivered had LTS 8000 dump trucks with Cat 3208's. He had 3 or 4 trucks and the engines in these trucks were Cat yellow. At the time, the trucks were fairly new too, so I don't think they had been overhauled. Anyways, I built the AMT Ford last year, the engine is definitely a Cat 3208. And yes, there were Ford blue engines too.
lapazleo Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 That engine is a cat 1150/1160 the fore runner to the 3208 but it is not a 3208 they look similar and sound similar but they are not the same. Early 70s Fords do have their engines painted blue no matter what they are. There is much online about these engines a search should turn up all you need.
