Tye Brown Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Hi all, I want to build the General Lee, is the MPC kit any good to use? Cheers
martinfan5 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 In one word, no, take the wheels and tires and the decals from the kit and then throw the kit away, then get you a revell 69 charger kit.
57peppershaker Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Hi Tye The MPC kit is dated & the roof is inaccurate for a General (tho not sure if the latest issue has the correct rear roof ?). Although they can look ok, your better off starting with the Revell 69 Charger & getting aftermarket decals & wheels. I built an MPC General about 20 years ago, but got a Revell kit for a new General, waiting to be started.
Agent G Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Where's Danno when you need him!? Curled up in the fetal position, sucking his thumb right about now. G
Greg Myers Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) Personally I think this kit best represents what the General Lee is to me. Kind of a Grand National car that has been rebuilt to drive on the street. Just saying. Just my opinion. Edited January 15, 2012 by Greg Myers

MoparWoman Jamie Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 First off, guy's get over the General Lee an Dukes of Hazzard issue okay. You might as well just accept it.. an stop crying over it an trying to start issues on here when people post's about the show or the car model they want to build of it. LOL Okay now for the OP question, the kit will work if your just starting out an have not built a model car before, BUT it's not the most best kit for the job though. Like afew others have said, and I will agree with 100% on, get the Revell Charger (alot more parts then what the MPC one has though) as you will love that kit way more as it's way better detailed then the MPC one is. Plus if you want General Lee model items (for ex: cb antenna, cb unit, push bars, ect ect) that is correct in scale for your model build, PM me.
Junkman Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I think the Tamiya Fiat 500 would be perfect:

Some of us are just joking around, I love seeing GL builds, and there are many options out there to build a better GL , but the first step is not using the MPC kit. Also to OP, here is a site to get all things DOH decals http://hazzardousdec...om/default.aspx Here is how to guide http://www.di-namix.com/naglfc/howto.htm Zerodude, could let me know where I can find the correct CB antenna, I know I found one once, but can not remember Edited January 15, 2012 by martinfan5
57peppershaker Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Thats a good DOH link, thanks. Without hijacking the thread, anybody make round headlights for the patrol cars ?
martinfan5 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Ian, I have seen somewhere on the interwebs that someone made a resin base for the GL, and I cant remember where it is I saw it. I have two GL that need the CB antennas

The Tear Drop, the D900 (I think that's the name), an the Avanti one. I make the parts in 1/24-25 1/16-1/18 scale also. The decal guy you posted the link to does a very good job at making decals also, I use his decals on my General Lee model builds.

I would have to figure out which base goes with which car, I have one GL that has the narrow bush bar, and one that has the wider bar, and I want to say that both of those used a different base for the antenna

The wider push bar cars came in later in the series when they started going here an there with different cb antenna's.
Agent G Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 Jonathan how hard could it be to scratch those bases? I would try that first using bits and bobs of plastic with guitar string for the actual antenna. Get a set of metal strings, they are perfect for all sorts of stuff, and the E string is the best antenna. G

G G, oh I am sure I can do it, I have the wire for the antenna part, just need to do a base, maybe one day, its one of those things that if get to it great , if not no biggie, I will have find me some pics now. P.S., check your phone
Agent G Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I have an easy way to make those ball mounts, I'll post later. I was outside enjoying the 65 degree weather and gale force winds. G
sjordan2 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 (edited) I think we and other model forums should establish a permanent topic on the menu called "Everything Dukes of Hazzard." This is NOT a joke. I am totally serious. Edited January 15, 2012 by sjordan2
martinfan5 Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I think we and other model forums should establish a permanent topic on the menu called "Everything Dukes of Hazzard." I have been saying to myself for awhile now, and have even thought about making that suggestion to Gregg or Harry, and while we are at it, have a Pinned Ebay thread as well
sjordan2 Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) I would add that a separate Dukes of Hazzard topic should perhaps be more of an informational minisite, such as "How Do I...". I don't think there's a problem with anyone posting On the Workbench or Under Glass threads in the regular forum for DoH builds. But the same questions keep being asked time after time after time after time af.... Edited January 16, 2012 by sjordan2

Agent G Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 (edited) I honestly had no idea there was such a DOH following. I understand following Daisy, but wow we have a lot of dedicated folks out there. A seperate informational topic makes sense now. G Edited January 16, 2012 by Agent G
Tony T Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 There's a Batcave in the CBP for all things Batman, so why not a Hazzard County thread in the CBP for all builds related to DOH?
