Hey all...got this for Christmas, just got my paint order from Hobbylinc today so I can start painting and whatnot.

(It's NOT going to look exactly like that when finished )

Here's the engine, gonna paint it with aluminum Metalizer. Also, if anyone has any good engine reference pictures of this car, I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks for looking.

For as much advice as you dispense to everyone, I am really looking forward to seeing you put your experience to work on this iconic car, (and a favorite of mine) and show us firsthand what you've been trying to impart to us.

I wish American model makers had taken a greater interest in Can-Am cars, especially in 1/25 scale. MPC made a McLaren Mk8D, but it was in 1/20 scale; I bought it but never bothered to build it. I know IMC made a Chaparral 2E, but they're rare and expensive now.

When I heard that AMT/Matchbox had decided to come out with a Porsche 917/10, I was elated... then I learned that it would be made in 1/32 scale.

I enlisted the help of several longshoremen and sailors to help me invent new, more acrimonious cuss words to call them for doing that. Seriously, that car in 1/32? I'll bet the idiot who greenlighted that liked New Coke too.

Here's another favorite Can-Am car I wish somebody would make a quality kit of. It's David Hobbs' 1973 McLaren M20. Lotsa these in slot car sizes and I assume 1/43, but AFAIK, nothing in 1/25.

I've read that there were some Japanese kits (Union?) that were 1/28, but they were usually expensive and hard to find. Allegedly, the warehouse where the molds for these were stored was destroyed by the most recent natural disaster, so don't expect re-issues anytime soon.

I do have an Accurate Miniatures M8B, but when SAE assigned a fairly reputable modeler to review it, he basically said you can either build it with the upper body pieces off to expose the details or you can leave off some of the detail items so the body parts fit nicely, but you can't have both. I was hoping these cars, along with their GS Corvettes, would turn American Miniatures into an American Tamiya - offering high quality models of non-mundane subject matter. Oh well...

Monty, thanks for that bit of info. Can Am is one of my favorite racing series of all time, so I hope they eventually release more kits.

And by the way-I DID find that other injector screen.

I have some of those Japanese 1/28 kits, even built the Shadow. You are not missing anything.

I guess that's good to know. Did you ever try the A.M. M8B?

I have a couple of them, keep almost starting on Oscar Koveleski's version. One of these days...

I understand there are some issues with the supplied plumbing/wiring in those kits. You are better off providing your own thinner materials if you want to be able to button it up.

Engine is almost finished, granted I still have to do detailing and all but it's getting there.

Did some light weathering as well

Couple of questions: Is that black pump on the left hand side for fuel, or oil? And how exactly were the fuel lines on this car, and where was that fuel tank?

Thanks for looking.

This looks like cool build, very nice job with it, especially that engine looks like nice one. Maybe I should get this kit at some point too, and build it...
