Jordan White Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Going to be building this kit soon and figured I'd see what some of you have done with the kit, whether stock or custom let's see it!
Nick Winter Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 One of the two I have, waiting till I get the AMT '94 Lightning before I build the other as the 454. And don't forget there cousin, (mind you I did this with a promo) Nick
01blueedge Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 this is the body off a ss 454 on a tahoe frame to make it a 4wd z71
Gray Smith Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 here is mine in progress...stalled out on motor choice. Stance shown is close to what it will be when done..
JamesW Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I've got a couple in the stash I have yet to touch, as well as a couple of the stepsides.
wraith Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 here is mine in progress...stalled out on motor choice. Stance shown is close to what it will be when done.. SWEET! LOVE the wheels! what are they from?
Gray Smith Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 Thanks guys! They are aoshima advan rs-somethings..lol I think they are in the 19" wheel line, stripped of chrome and sprayed white. These are also flat rims, the nice deep lips come from other aoshima rims that have sep. lips on them. There was a very long process of deciding which ones to put on this kit...these won out. I'll try and muster some motivation to finish this one...it's actually pretty close...if I don't include and engine (which i'm almost at the decision)
tooltas Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 an 454 done like a 572 crate would look great
Chris guthro Posted January 21, 2012 Posted January 21, 2012 how about the amt 68 chev elcamino fuel injected big block. it could be done up to look like a 502!
Gray Smith Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 how about the amt 68 chev elcamino fuel injected big block. it could be done up to look like a 502! I've actually thought of that since I do have one of those languishing in a box, I was going to use the efi big block out of the 67 396 SS then pop a supercharger on it...not a lot of room..might just go with the elky engine though..
Chris guthro Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 I need to find one for a 55 chev im going to be building next. they look to be extremely detailed too@!
RyanSilva Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I scored a ss 454, and a sportside this week, im gonna make a 454 ss sportside version.
Chuck Most Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Only one I've worked on in a while. Never finished it. Keef has it now. Well, if it's showed up...
Wheels Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) A Tahoe chassis under a C1500. I never even thought about that! This Sportside sat in a box for the last five years. After seeing Josh's post. I decided that I would go the same route! I mocked up this sportside as a 4x4 that I was going to do as a slammed in the weeds street machine. Jordan White Posted January 27, 2012 Author Posted January 27, 2012 Whatever you do, don't leave the wheels chrome, otherwise they'll look like the cheap wheelcovers you can buy at Pepboys!
tooltas Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 got one in works thanks too mys going to be not stock at all monster street truck got 37'' tire off the 84 gmc kit on the revells caddie 23''
Chris guthro Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 the tires in the 84 are nice but the downfall are them ugly wheels! i wish i could find something to put in its place but the wheel opening is too bit
baloney Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 it's been in the box for .......oh so many years now.. not even close to finish it... i'll dig it up &post some pics.
baloney Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 there you go! i bought this in 91.... not done yet.. i'm using the 427 from the max rat kit---66 chevelle--this is in 1.24 so it's a little bigger than the 454 used in the kit. it's sitting on 20"various wheel--aoshima--.it will be low to the ground of course.. and black tinted windows too. the paint needs to be polished ,it's pretty raw. this has been spray with lacquer from a rattle can long time ago..
Chris guthro Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 very sharp boloney!! the red interior sets that black paint off!
tooltas Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 yes the wheels are not cool at all form 84 kit im using the nice 22/24 caddie exlade 2/1 kit not the uptown one all i did is cut a little of the tire and custom wheel snap in
Terry Jessee Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 SS 454, huh? Here's the prototype. I built this for Tom Haverland in 1991 using a Sportside kit and a resin box from All American Models. Wheels were from a '32 Ford phaeton with centers from the Sportside kit. This was built for a product planning presentation, then started making the show circuit while they were tooling the new kit. Eventually they used this for the box art model in the first release, but airbrushed in different wheels and seats. Terry
