Chuck Most Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Stupid 'newbie' question here, I know, but how does one measure the wheelbase on a rig with more than one rear axle? Do you measure from the centerline of the front axle to the centerline of the rear axle nearest the front, or the rear? Would a tag axle count? Thanks for any info!
Jim B Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 You measure from the center line of the front axle to the center point BETWEEN the two drive axles. Tag axles & pusher axles wouldn't count.
Chuck Most Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Got it. Thanks! The info will come in handy.
mackinac359 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 For a tridrive/tridem the measurement would be the center of the center axle. If a twin-steer the measurment would be from the center of both front axles. Tim
Chuck Most Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 Thanks! It's all making sense now - I was messing around with an Ertl Transtar Eagle earlier, trying to replicate a 1:1 truck. I had the wheelbase measurement, but using the rear axle centerlines it looked WAY off! Now, knowing where the rear axles SHOULD be positioned for the wheelbase, it looks a LOT better.
