RDean58 Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 A few weeks ago I picked up 5 vans that are "Native" to Japan. You have seen the Elgrand that I started awhile ago. The box cover. Now here are the others. Toyota Alphard MS/AS I started this one last night and have it painted in Testors Auto lacquer 64 Chevy Silver blue. Honda Odyssey Absolute This one does not look like the Odessy's in America! Plans for this one include Ford Purple. Toyota Hiace How about TS-53 Dark blue for this one? Toyota Estima I'm thinking this one will be either 65 Chevy Evening orchard or a flip-flop silver & green. I'm not sure yet. So, what do ya all think of these? Thanks for looking
Gray Smith Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Oh i wish that Honda sold that version of the Odyssey here, I'd be driving that instead of the Voyager I just bought not too long ago..lol good choice! Also I really dig the boxystyle Hiace...looking forward to seeing that one built. thanks for posting, and lets see some progress on them! Gray
Harry P. Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Elgrand? Alphard? Absolute? Hiace? Estima Aeras??? Gotta hand it to the Japanese...nobody comes up with wackier names for cars than they do...
Modelmartin Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 Almost as good as us using French -"Le Car"!
Dave McFly Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Almost as good as us using French -"Le Car"! well to be fair that was Renault of USA's decision. in france it is called the R5 .
Modelmartin Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 There was a little drawing in Road & Track several years back showing a Le Car in a showroom next to a Pacer that was labeled "The Voiture"! When I was in France I saw all sorts of weirdness. There was a special version of one car called "Le Shopping". Porn businesses all had their signs in English! I guess English is sexier. 8) Nobody has a lock on using another language badly to lend an air of the exotic to their product. My personal favorite was a line of kits Nichimo had out many years ago - The world-wide worthy car collection! Perfect.
RDean58 Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 Daihatsu makes a car called "Naked  " for sale in Japan only.
Modelmartin Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 New meaning for the phrase " Get Naked!" I don't know why more of these companies don't bring these little vans over here. My mom got a Scion xB and it is a fantastic vehicle. Rommy, economical, hauls a lot, handles well! There is nothing not to like about it. I know some don't like the styling but that is their problem. Nissan has a similar van and that Naked van is very cool. The Suzuki one is cool, too.
RDean58 Posted May 31, 2007 Author Posted May 31, 2007 I guess they feel that Americans don't go for the small cars. Plus on some of the smaller ones there could be a problem with meeting our crash standards and emissions regs. I understand the Nissan Cube is coming to America in 2008! That would be so cool! To bad ( ) we already have a Honda Fit Sport ordered or else I'd look into the Cube. (Yeah, I got a model of both.) We haven't gotten ours yet (around the middle of July) but here is a pic of what it's gonna look like.
Modelmartin Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 The Cube rocks but my favorite micro-van of all is the Fiat Multipla. It is basically a toaster on wheels. I want one real bad! A model of it, that is!
JAFFA Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Hmm, Nissan could'nt have found a better name for the *Cube".... Btw, when will ya start that Boxy Hiace??
Jairus Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Our high NTSA crash standards are the reason many small European and Japanese autos are not sold here! It's just too expensive to retrofit something like the Swatch car for sale in America because it would double the price of the car.
Zoom Zoom Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 How about a Nissan Scargo? Now this is retro I can wrap my head around Actually it's S-Cargo; a play on the French word "Escargot" aka "snail" which is an accurate description of the design (and probably the performance as well); it's a modern interpretation of the Citroen 2CV delivery vans from the past. Very clever name for a very cool delivery trucklet. I really hoped that the Japanese model companies would have done a kit of it, but alas it never happened
hookedonplastics Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 Interesting pic, Harry. Everything is out of focus except for the car. Did you " P'Shop" this one? Just wondering 8)
Harry P. Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 No fooling around on this one...it's just as I found it. Pretty cool shot.
