wgflatliner Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I was in a rush to get this done, and it took all of three days and nearly an all night session to get it done. One last thing I need to do is paint the tail lights. I was on a deadline to have it done by today. The model is typical older amt quality, which isn't great. The metal axles are too long and the wheels don't like the tires. I gave the paint the oxidized look as if the owner of the car neglected to keep the paint polished. The contest I am in is the out of box type, so no spark plug wires or stuff like that. Flocking and foil are allowed. Considering the deadline and the time put into it, I am happy with the end result. I will upload better pictures tonight.
62rebel Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 you're not allowed to clip the axles off a little shorter? that's a pretty nice result for a three-day build. a street survivor, not a trailer queen!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 That's a beautiful color and wonderful results! Congratulations.
wgflatliner Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 here's the camera pics before putting it in the case.
rmvw guy Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Nice for box stock. One detail, I would touch the tail lights with a red sharpie. Also I would shorten the axels a bit if allowed. Nice three day build! Good job on the BMF.
wgflatliner Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 Thanks. I already painted the tail lights after the photos were taken. With the axles I am going to address them when I get it back
Sixties Sam Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Nice job! I like those older 'Vettes with the white side panel. Red seems like the best color for them, too! Sam
vaughn Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Love that year Vet......you did good...good luck!
Harry P. Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Nice, for a "rush job"... but why put yourself through that kind of stress? Building a model under a deadline? Seriously? I thought this was supposed to be a hobby, not a chore... I can't imagine ever building a model to meet some sort of artificial deadline. That's just not the way I see this hobby... but that's just me. Like Dennis Miller says... "I could be wrong."
wgflatliner Posted January 30, 2012 Author Posted January 30, 2012 To be honest, harry, I am not really a fan of the older amt models. My club did a gift exchange for christmas and turned it into a contest that would be a club contest at the end of February. The idea is to build what you got at the party. I was working with this kit and after seeing its issues, I decided I didn't want to dump more money into it if the model itself isn't that great. So it turned into box stock. I know the kit didn't have many pieces to it and I knew there was an out of box contest coming up. So I looked at the kit and decided to just get it done. Due to the limited parts involved, it seemed possible. It didn't bother me that I rushed because its something else removed from my stash. And I actually did have fun with it! So, that said, if I find a decent model that requires a decent amount of effort then I won't attach any deadlines to it.
