zaina Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 i built this one for an upcoming contest. wired and plumbed...and all aluminum parts machined by me. enjoy! since these photos were taken, i added a grille, changed the seat and added a racing harness and cut the wing mount tabs off.
vintagedragfan Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 super sweet build Andy! I have this kit, gonna make a Pure Hell out of it, one of my alltime favorite altereds, actually got lucky and found some slixx decals at the Papillion show, keep crankin out these beutiful builds man!
Foxer Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Very nice! I like it presented as more a street roadster.
rv1963 Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I love these old drag cars they have so much personality and those machined parts lookk great.
Harry P. Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Nice job, but that blower drive belt is waaaaaaaay too thick...
sjordan2 Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Nice job, but that blower drive belt is waaaaaaaay too thick... That's an interesting observation. I REALLY like the skill that has gone into this kit, but you raise a point that I think is important to a lot of builds. I see so many other great pieces of work with engines that could benefit from parts that are not overly large, especially plug wires, hoses, wiring, belts, etc. It seems to me that it's better to go a bit too small than too large in those areas. Same goes for things like carpet flocking and metallic paint, which often (to me) seem way overscale.
Harry P. Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Here's an idea of how thin the belt should be. Look at the belt where it passes over the top of the blower pulley.
Pete L. Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) Super job...nice color combo !!! Edited February 28, 2012 by Pete L.
zaina Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 thanks everyone for the great feedback. i am aware athat the belt is a bit too thick. it came from scale repros plus. i liked the fact that it has a cogged under surface and i have not seen one anywhere else. i didnt want to just use tape because it has a smooth surface. if anyone knows where i can get a more scale version please let me know. thanks andy
Harry P. Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Since you built that model specifically for an upcoming contest, you might consider replacing that belt. Any judge worth his salt is going to see that...
zaina Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 thanks harry p, i actually took home a third place trophy running against a lot of fine quality cars ( i was very surprised) if you know of a source of a good belt please let me know where i can get one. as far as the judging goes, from everything that i have ever read, details come last...its all about the fit, finish and quality.
