My daughter's puppy had my '61 Impala SS in her mouth shredded when I walked in the room! I didn't, but I wanted to for a split second. I'm guessing this happens more often than most people would like to admit???

If one of my pets gets ahold of a build, my first reaction is concern for the pet. Then I ask how? The darn dog didn't climb the bookcase to chew my prize '49 Merc.

You better not ever smack a pet for doing what comes natural!

It's up to you to keep whatever it is you don't want the dog to get into away from the dog!

No, my friend, no hitting the animals. They don't unlearn bad behavior that way. My new dog (not GENERAL EYEGORE) has chewed up already 3 computer cords. You think by now we would have learned not to make it available for her.

Remember SuperBowl XX? 1985? I bought a brand new VCR with a remote. Yes a remote! It had a cord, but an honest to goodness remote it was. I taped the game for posterity, as I knew this was one for the books. (record books, not sports books)

Half way through the Bears rampage, the poodle began chewing on the remote cord. To this day I cannot fathom why, she had never chewed anything before or after. No no don't chew, go away.

All I could conclude is that dog was posessed by the spirit of my then wife, now ex #2. Definately NOT the dogs fault.

Amen Harry! I do understand the frustration, but puppies CHEW STUFF. I learned the hard way on that, but the only time I've ever popped a dog was a friend's German Shepard (and I love dogs . . . had shepards all my life) attacked me. This was the 4th time he'd bitten somebody. The vet said he was a "fear biter". I hit him right between the eyes with the bottom of my fist as hard as I could. He let go, but by that time I already had 3 significant bite wounds.

Good, this is 1 more thing I'm re-learning. I couldn't believe I left the door open! New studio, new puppy. My horrified gasp (almost a scream) scared her so bad, my guess is styrene is off her diet. Live & learn! Thanks for not hurting your pets. They can only do what you allow them to do. It appears that nothing actually got swallowed, Maggie's fine. I've been wanting a '61 Olds 98 from Resin Realm anyway........

X2 !! They don't know any better, and a model can almost always be replaced. It's just a material possession.

try having a shelf display full of models attended to by a raccoon. well; she was a pet.... and the models, for the most part, were easily repairable..... she just wanted to see how they went together. moved the shelf a LOT higher after that, and got an enclosed glass display case.... my SON broke that one. let him live THAT down....

I would seriously think about going back and editing the title of this thread. I am one of those people that doesn't get upset or offended easily but when it comes to pets, especially dogs, I'm quick to jump when there is a threat of unneccesary abuse or discipline. I am a lifelong dog lover, member of the ASPCA and local volunteer to many different animal rescue groups and can't help but get emotionally involved when abusive situations arise. Hopefully the OP didn't mean any malice in their title but unfortunately it would suggest otherwise.

Man, I whole heartily agree with you Harry!!!!!!!!!! I HATE people that ABUSE animals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've rescued several stray dogs from the brutal streets of Chicago. I've kept several through the years too. I'd find em walking around the train tracks & depots. I gotta stop there coz I'm startin to get p----- off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry      I just read this thread and only made it as far as Harry's reply Edited by Sixx

There isn't very much I put before my models. But my dog is one I do. I have never and would never hit my dog for doing something I am to blame for. Face it, if it is in reach of the dog, then you are to blame.

Yes everyone, the thread title is VERY misleading. I am a life-long animal lover & my daughter's puppy was NOT hurt in any way other than scared by my shocked gasp that was a reflex action. We have this 4 mo. old red heeler pup, a 3 yr old American Bulldog/Boxer mix, who is my best friend in the world. A 2 yr old Johnsons American Bulldog who is gonna have puppies ANY day now. we have a yr old cat, a canary, a hamster, 2 miniature fainting goats, 3 chickens, 1 rooster, & 3 ducks. We live on 4 acres 18 miles from the nearest town, but I would hesitate to call it a farm. All we grow is fruit & vegetables. None of our animals is "livestock", they are all pets. We are transplanted city people who have lived on this "farm" for 26 months & my wife, my daughters(16 + 10) and I are all animal lovers who have taken advantage of our otherwise dire situation to bring the joy & responsibility of multiple pets to into our lives. We don't belong to any animal rights groups, are not activists in any way, but we keep our little corner of the world hate-free & beautiful as possible. I was merely expressing frustration with the thread title. That said, it has been VERY refreshing & heartwarming to find so many other animal lovers in this forum. I apologize for offending anyone. In hind-sight, I'm quite certain I would have been offended by this; again, just frustration guys. Please rest assured I would never hurt ANY of our animals. Now I'm gonna try to change the title, because I know there has to be alot of similar HUMOROUS stories of our beloved pets "finishing" our models for us! Again, I'm sorry to offend. Sincerely, Bart.

A friend of mine woke up one morning to find that his pup had turned this body....

I know he was a bit upset but he´d never do anything bad to the dog.

My rule is doggie can't chew what doggie can't reach. Since my dog isn't fond of jumping up onto tabletops, everything is at least three or four feet off the floor where she can't get to it. Same goes for kids, but I don't allow children in my house. From what I've seen, it's usually the human who needs the snot flogged out of them. :D

Had doggies ALL my life, single and married, an i ain't never smaked one for bein a dog! They only tear up what they can reach, an I build onna table high enough they won't/can't jump on it(they're NOT cats!) My Bouve, Bruce, would set his chin on my table and watch, but since he went home, I've only had smaller dogs(Brucie pooped like a PEOPLE!). Tim, and Freddie, an now Raylan are/were too short to reach my workbench. But they sat/sit at my feet in my model room when I'm workin in there. Heck, they sit at my feet even when I'm NOT workin in there!

OP made a post that was, at the least, poorly worded. He has since apologized, and stressed that he did not hit the dog, and reaffirmed his love of animals.

I don't fault anyone furthering the discussion, as long as they acknowledge the full content. In other words, he admits an error, but we don't need a lynching mob. At least he apologized. That's good enough for this dog lover.

And on a related note, why does it seem like people will get all emotional over animal abuse, yet... display a "whatever..." attitude to all the HUMAN on HUMAN violence in the world?

Love your pets. Love your family. Love mankind.

Bartster, glad to hear you didn't or would not smack puppy around. As a dog owner I to have been frustrated and have lost many beloved possessions to the jaws of my dog. I once had a dog who had a fetish for remote controls. Again I blame myself for leaving them in reach of the dog but I have to say I had to use Frank Costanza's method to relax on several occasions.

SERENITY NOW!

I have also noticed that dogs seem to find trouble when they are bored. Even more so with a puppy if they don't get lots of exercise they look to entertain themselves by chewing up whatever they can to get our attention.
