COOLBERG Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) i just got this in the other day ive got alot of work and FAB to put into this kit........started some HEAVY SANDING........ any xtra help is good...... need to get some styrene to re-enforce the broken area...... this will take some good time and a whole lot of PAITENCE AFTER gettin some stryrene and TENAX 7R i started gettin the body put back together heres some mock up pics if you look closely u can see the CRACK LINES OF WHERE IT BROKE Edited February 20, 2012 by COOLBERG
Casey Posted February 2, 2012 Posted February 2, 2012 (edited) Some clearer images would help, but from what I can see, the damage isn't too horrible. Pick up a sheet of Evergreen or Plastruct styrene in the same thickness as the rocker panel on the body, and get busy cutting and test fitting. I would suggest you use a solvent welder type 'glue' to join the spoiler pieces, and that will melt both sides and provide a seamless, permanent bond....provided the break is clean. Were the 'glass' pieces intact? That seems to be the #1 issue with the 1/8 scale Monogram kits- broken windshields and rear windows. Edited February 2, 2012 by Casey

Casey Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I like and use Ambroid Pro Weld, but there are others just like it.
eviltwincustoms Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 They don't make Ambroid any longer, the next best thing I have found is Tenax 7.
Mooneyzs Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 Nice start on it Scot... I personally use Weld-On #3 which is just like Tenax 7 or Ambroid and I either buy it in a pint or quart size. they used to bottle it in the 4oz bottles like tenax and Ambroid but stopped many years ago. well I found that many plastics places carry the Weld-On products and it ends up being cheaper in the long run I think the last time I ordered 2 quart size containers and I paid either 15.00 or 20.00 a quart for them. It was a smoking deal in my opinion. Anyway I don't think you can go wrong with any of these solvent type glues.
eviltwincustoms Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I think they stopped making it for a while, but I've seen it in a few hobby shops, with multiple bottles on the shelves. Cool, that is usually the way it goes... when I try and get something my Local Hobby store no longer has access to the product! Darn it. Nice start on it Scot... I think I may have to take Chris' route next time and start doing this, because I know I have spent more than $30.00 in Ambroid over the last couple years. This definitely would be a cost savings to me... Especially since I need the money for more detailed parts... cough cough.....

Slapfight Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Well, hello there giant Trans Am buddy. I got my hands on one from a friend, luckily, it was complete, and (almost) crack free. I will be watching with great interest. One question: Are you going to try to replicate or find some original decals? This is the only part I an not sure of yet on mine. I want a nearly stock appearance, and I gotta have that bird. Keep up the good work!
