kap64 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Hello all, just found this forum, thought I'd post a couple of pics of my stuff. I build all types, air, land, and sea.
Ben Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Very nice work! That police car looks real! Where did you have that Great Dane reefer plated?
doogie7046 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Awesome builds. Thanks for sharing the pics.
GeeBee Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 That's some very nice builds you've done there, love the trucks !!
kap64 Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Thanks all. The Great Dane was actually an experiment with aluminum foil and 3M spray adhesive, turned out better then I expected. The lowboy was scratch built by someone and I tore it down (more than it already was) and restored, repainted, reassembled it, the KW was a Revell Germany kit. It was basically a box full of parts when I received it. I'll see if I have any more pics of it. I'm currently in Virginia Beach and my trucks are in NC at my house. The cool thing about the cop car is that the Chief gave me a set of the actual full size decals to use for making mine. Believe it or not, I made those decals in Microsoft Word. The Aerodyne and Great Dane were basically built out of the box.
ntc8733 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Looks great Ken, seen those police cars many times on my journeys to Norfolk.
plasticbutcher Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Beautiful builds Sir, and Welcome to the forum, could you please explain how you "foiled" the great dane, thank you for the eye candy, look forward to seeing more
kap64 Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 That trailer was sort of a glue bomb sitting on the shelf for years, so I figured what the heck, I'll try foil. This was before Alclad became popular. I took regular household Reynolds aluminum foil and sprayed the back with 3M spray adhesive, but only on the foil, not the trailer in case I wanted to remove it. Stuck it on and it's been stuck ever since. If you try that on something smooth and flat, you might be able to see the texture of the adhesive underneath the foil. If it was a new build and I was going to do it again, I would use Alclad or bare metal foil, let's the details show better. I priced getting the sides chromed at Chrome Tech and it was way too expensive. I've been using chrome Alclad on a couple of fire trucks I've been working on and it worked out pretty good.
kap64 Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Here are a couple more pics I found on my hard drive.
Inky Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Welcome to the forum. Your builds are beautiful. Love the W900 but when I saw the ship in the back ground I was in awe, Ships are my passion.
Sticks Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 They are fanstasic, very nice. I hope you have more to show.
kap64 Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 Thanks. That boat is the smaller of two I'm working on, the other is a semi scratch built CG-71 at a little over eight feet long. It will be a long time before it touches the water.
Truck parts Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Ken , I love the KW,and it's a great color. That is also a great looking ship. Also welcome
Tony Bryan Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 That W900 is a real eye catcher, love to see more
