FASTBACK340 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Last week I had made a post of having three deaths within my circle of friends/family last week. I've had two more this week, plus Darrin's loss, not to mention the celebrities that passed this week....
crazyjim Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 . . . celebrities that passed . . . And nobody seems to care about the Americans who died in Afghanistan this week.
mikemodeler Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 . . . celebrities that passed . . . And nobody seems to care about the Americans who died in Afghanistan this week. I agree with you 100% Jim. While I hated to hear about Gary Carter passing away, it wasn't a total shock to hear about Whitney as she was on a path of self-destruction for some time now. What is troubling for me is that the deaths of our service men and women tend to go unnoticed unless there is a sensational aspect to their demise. What passes for news these days makes me wonder why I bother watching TV much anymore!
Rob McKee Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 John, I am sorry for your loses. I know it is tough when someone close is taken from us but try and look beyond what is happening now. I am not sure what age group you are in but I am in my mid 40s and find that I am going through a similar time with parents, aunts, uncles, and far to many from cancer and other diseases. The best we can do is love our close ones while they are alive and remember them fondly when they pass. Nothing anyone can say or do will bring back those who have passed but they can live on in our memories forever.
heatride Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 . . . celebrities that passed . . . And nobody seems to care about the Americans who died in Afghanistan this week. I am a Old Vet and I could not of said it any better .
Agent G Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Whitney who? Semper Fi The St.Louis PD's Veterans Assn. (retired cops) has lost ten members since October. One active duty copper passed from cancer, he was 43 and a stud of a man. You know you're getting old when your FTO, first watch commander, first Captain, and Deputy Chief of Detectives are all gone. Hell, my best partner has been gone since '95. G
FASTBACK340 Posted February 17, 2012 Author Posted February 17, 2012 Maybe it was in bad taste on my part for the celebrity inclusion, but the point was that I haven't seen so many back to back in my life. Good Lord... I can't turn anywhere without being reminded. My OP wasn't meant to be polarizing or taken insensitively.

Patrick2005 Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 I'm really sorry to hear about your hardships. One loss is hard enough... All I can do is offer my sincere condolences and to say that if you ever need someone to talk to, you got a whole family here man!
Agent G Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 Your post was fine, right on the money. I'm right there with you. Jeez, like I said, TEN guys gone since October? About half in my age group? Makes ya think don't it? G
mikemodeler Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Maybe it was in bad taste on my part for the celebrity inclusion, but the point was that I haven't seen so many back to back in my life. Good Lord... I can't turn anywhere without being reminded. My OP wasn't meant to be polarizing or taken insensitively. John, please accept my condolences for your losses- family and friends. I have lost some family and friends too as of late and it is hard to understand some times. I just wish some of the accolades being paid to the likes of Whitney Houston could be used on people who gave their lives to our freedom and safety. Sure, it is sad that Whitney's daughter will not have her Mom around, but considering the example she was, that might not be a bad thing afterall, just my opinion.
Jon Cole Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 When you feel your back hit the wall... that's it. You can't get pushed back any further. It's a sad and unfair turn of events you have experienced. A bad set of circumstances. Now fate, or lady luck... they can only push so far. Now you get to rebound. And you will. Winter can be cruel like this (I like to blame winter!) It's got to get better. Don't throw it in. It will get better. Good luck to you.
Wheels Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 John, Please accept my condolenses. You and your family are in my prayers tonight! May God strengthen and comfort you during this painful time. Mark
Dr. Cranky Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Glenn, one of the things I appreciate about getting older is that I no longer really have to stay tuned in to all the bad news all over the world. When my daughters were growing up we would listen to the news on the radio and I would tell them to remember some of the conflicts in the world, in particular the Middle East, and that when they were my age, those things would still be going on. I did myself a favor a long time ago, I just tuned out. Now I just focus on my writing and building models.
FASTBACK340 Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 I'm well aware of law enforcement as my Father was a Corrections Officer in the incomparable NYC prison system... and I've had relatives come home in pieces from Viet Nam and on up. It's all the same. Death sucks.... Now I'm off to a hall not far from where NNL East is held in NJ to pay respects at a memorial service for my friends Mom. My friends Father is being flown into the States this weekend. We start again next week.... Grrrr!
Dr. Cranky Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 Hang in there, John. All you can do is pay your respects and keep the good memories alive.
