hookedonplastics Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Just a proud poppa. Cant help it. She has always liked older, classic cars, so I really wanted to get her something that would stand out. She absolutely loves it, and loves the attention that it brings! and our anti-theft device.... Thanks for viewing! 8)
Mike Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 That's great! I hope I can surprise the kids like that when they graduate. I've got 14 years to plan....
Dragon7665 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Great looking Corvair 8) I have always wanted one, but I don't think Ol' Ralphie would be Happy
Howard Cohen Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I had one when I was in college way back in 71, a 110 model, 90HP, 2 speed auto on the dash, buckets. It had a few small problems but it was a great car and the first car I bought with my own money. I added a pair of stabilizer bars, Marchal headlights, a Dayco fan belt and hi-po Dunlop tires. Repairs included a new set of valve seals. I had the car for almost 2 years. Your daughter should have fun with it and you can teach her the basics of car maintenance at the same time. Then you can build a model of it.
Gregg Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Dad, can I have the Mustang in the garage? I promise I'll be good! Actually, with all seriousness aside, I'm impressed, and jealous. I wish I could have done that myself, but that's a whole nother story.... My hat is off to you
hookedonplastics Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 Thanks Gregg! It was a lot of fun for me to look for the car. It feels like an empty spot in my life now, no more scanning the side streets for "ForSale" cars, no more NADA website searches for pricing... Half of the fun is the chase, dont you think? 8) The Mustang is MY pet project. My dad bought it when I was 12 and gave it to me about 7 years ago. My son and daughter are already fighting over who gets it when I am gone. Sheeesh. And I am still breathing.....
hookedonplastics Posted June 8, 2007 Author Posted June 8, 2007 Howard, Ironically, I already had 2 models in the stash. And I noticed that the rims on the Paddy Wagon match the ones on our Corvair, so I should be able to replicate it very easily. As far as car maintenance is concerned, she is already very adept. She helped me replace the alternator on her CRX with required dropping the spindle and CV joint to create clearance. She takes pride in understanding how her vehicle works, and loves "oneupmanship" on her boyfriend.
Nick F40 Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 She better take CARE of that car, I wish I got something like that!
James Flowers Posted June 9, 2007 Posted June 9, 2007 Very lucky indeed. What are you doing to the Mustang ? I would like too see pictures the Mustang also. We bought are son a 4x4 truck when he graduated it was an Ford he loved it. Dad had fun with him with it also.
Jairus Posted June 10, 2007 Posted June 10, 2007 Ralph was a jerk! He used the Corvair as a stepping stone toward becoming known and eventually running for president (failed). He had no concerns for public safety and the Corvair as redesigned in 1965 addressed all safety concerns. The 1965 - 69 Corvair was a fantastic piece of engineering! GM killed it because of the high cost for maintenance and the fact that by 1969 sales were waning due to fact that the more convention Chevy Nova was cheaper to build. My brother's first car was a 66 Monza and I learned to drive on Dad's Corvair Corsa Sprint! Loved that car.....
