northendmetalallstar Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Hey all. I'm fairly new to modeling. Have never done a resin kit before. I was searching ebay to see if an Audi TT coupe model even existed. I found this one by Hobby Design for $170 plus shipping. Is this reasonable? seems awfully steep to me.
kitbash1 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Shipping costs are a little over the top, but the price of the kit is inline with I'd pay. But if this is your first resin kit, I'd rethink getting something this advanced and start off with a older and more simpler starter kit. If I were you, I'd go back on evil-bay and look at kits from Starter , LeMans Minitures or Province. These kits are more beginer friendly and are simple and CHEAP ! My first resin kit was a Starter kit and it went together quite fast ( 3 days ) which included one day soaking the body and parts for 24 hours in Simple Green to clean the release agent from the resin. Go back and see what's out there and get a simple kit and work up from there. I'm sure others will tell you the same thing. You can PM me with any questions any time. Good luck Douglas Graves.
montelsc Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 those are the kits from finland AIR TRAX is asking 180.00 for the 83 mirada and the chrysler 300 way to high for me
Darin Bastedo Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Don't know about the price but that shure looks like a resin copy of a die-cast. IF you could find the die-cast model it's copied from it might be a lot cheaper. Looks like a lot of photoetched details come with that kit though. Yeah they definately recast a diecast model.
caine440 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Was the Mirada also a recast of a Diecast?
Casey Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Was the Mirada also a recast of a Diecast? No, I'm pretty sure Juha Airio did the master on that particular offering.
imatt88 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 Jay, I agree with the other guys. Start off with something more simple to get your feet wet. Resin can be tricky to work with for the unfamiliar. Normal glues don't work on resin I've been modeling for a long time, and I've used resin add-ons and conversion kits for military aircraft, but until recently, never a full resin kit. Over the past year or so, I've purchased a couple full resin car kits, and it was a real eye opener. Some took a ton of work, one took almost no work.. HTH, let us know how you do, and POST PICS Cheers, Ian

I'm with Steve on this one; judging by the door hinges and multiple screw holes in the chassis, it's for sure based on a diecast......Bburago or Welly, most likely. Roncla Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Hobby Design are a chinese company and their products can range from excellent to abysmal. I've purchased a couple of their trans kits and both had resin warped parts, though other resin parts in the same box were perfect You really want to see their product in person before purchase. This is from my Mclaren 722GT and Hamann Fiat trans kits
