I have been wanting to build the 53-55 Corvette's recently. I really like the Revell/Monogram kits and they have both versions of the Blue Flame 6, so building a 54 or a 53 is right in the kit. I bought the AMT 55 but was not impressed with it. I can make it a nice build but the Revell kit is a much better start. MCG has a nice photo etch kit that has the 55 CheVrolet emblems which is the only other mod I need to do. So now on to the motor swap.

I started with two Revell engines. I had the 56 Nomad engine plus the 59 Corvette. Since most 55 Vett's had the automatic and the interior is also auto I started with the Nomad's engine. The Nomad had the correct valve covers that need to be chromed, I'll BMF them. Also the Nomad engine had the correct exhaust manifilds and belt system with the generator on the drivers side. I used the front cover and mounting system from the 59 Vette along with the air cleaner and fan shroud. Here is the pics of my mock up and scratch built engine mounts on the frame. This is just falling together so far.

This is just coming together just too easily. I think I spent more time going through my kits trying to formulate a plan and what kit's to rob for parts. I glued the driveshaft in it's place (it has a tab to attach to the chassis). That helped locate the engine. I did a quick mock up and it was located just right in the chassis. Then I glued in the styrene stock and shaped the frame mounts. Another mockup confirmed placement and I'm happy. Now I'll start to build and paint everything. I just need to pick a color for this one. I keep thinking red as the 53 will have to be white and the 54 is planned to be blue. I also like the copper 55 but I'm building the 57 vette it a similar gold.

I like this build. I too have been wanting to try this kit having tried the AMT kit with limited success. I prefer 1/25 over 1/24 but, the Monogram kit looks better to me. I'm very interestsd in where you get your parts for the 55.

Time to update this one. I have soothed out the body and started painting everything. The body has been painted red and I started attaching the photoetch parts. It's looking real nice now. I will be clearcoating the body and foiling the trim soon. Here are the photo's.

I wondered what ever happened to this one. I see you got the big V on the side. I like it in red. Hope you post more pictures soon Raoul, I like it so far.

Thanks guys. I have been working on this one on and off since New Years Day when I started this one. I recently cleaned out my hobby room and went through all my kits. I pulled out all the started ones so I could focus on them. I have 10 projects on my desk now that I am juggeling. I have 34 other kits also started just like many others on this sight. I have been on a bit of a slump lately and I think I know why but won't get into that. I will keep this one going so keep watch.
