tim_g Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I'm working on a nascar pick up truck and I want to paint the lower half a darker colour.... what's the best why to mask off the top half so I get a clean line between the 2 colours?
espo Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 I learned from someone on the forum that you can mask off the lighter color, then spray some clear along the taped line. After that is dry you can spray your second color. After that has dried you can remove the tape and do your final polishing and or clear everything.
weasel Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 if available, 3M FineLine tape, the blue stuff, very formable, edges seal/burnish easily..Tamiya tape works real well also, not as formable as the 3m, but just as clean of a line... make sure you check all the edges before you paint, don't load paint on, don't shoot 'up' a tape edge, ad infinitum...
MikeMc Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Most important is pulling the tape when the second color is still tacky, always pull the tape back over itself . Doing both of these will allow the edge to fall flat (minor ridge) and no lifting or cracking
