Harry P. Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 So what's that mean then? All non-car related threads go bye bye, or what? Did you read Gregg's post? He said that off-topic stuff is ok! (except religion and politics, the two big no-nos).
1930fordpickup Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I would like to say thank you to Gregg and Harry for clearing all this up for us .
Guest Johnny Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I'm currently repairing an Epiphone Les Paul Standard that I pulled out of the dumpster just before the garbage men picked up! Needs a good cleaning and the three way replaced and other than a couple blemishes is a nice looking axe!
FASTBACK340 Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 I wasn't going to mention the P or R words in my post, but those were 2 of the most volatile topics I was referring to. But if we have, say... 5 people whom have a great BBQ marinade recipe, let `em post (within reason) and interact. If 2 people are hammering on with an off-topic personal conversation on the forum, well then I think the Mod's have a valid reason to steer the topic. Thanks for agreeing with the logic behind this thread Gregg & co. Now, back to business: You pulled an Epiphone Les Paul out of a dumpster? Way cool! About 7 months ago I scratched an itch I've had since I was 13. I started playing Bass because of hearing Jack Bruce, whom played a Gibson EB-3 with Cream. I bought an Epiphone copy of the EB3-L and I love it! And this was the Bass I deleted from my original post. I bought a Warwick Corvette $$
SuperStockAndy Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Did you read Gregg's post? He said that off-topic stuff is ok! (except religion and politics, the two big no-nos). Sorry, I'm just not good with interpreting those kinds of posts Thanks.
trogdor Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Here's the one that got away from me , It's a Gibson ES Artist. I installed a set of SD alnico pro II's in it. The three toggles next to the volume and tone knobs could split the coils, reverse the polarity or any combination between the two pickups. The tones that guitar could get were incredible. Notice there are no F holes, which I think helped contribute to the sound immensely. Very similar to Brian May's Red Special. I will have another someday
Chuck Most Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Sorry, politics and religion are not one of those passions we will allow here though :-) As long as those two particular 'non-model' subjects are verboten, I don't mind a little off-topic stuff every now and then, too.
philo426 Posted May 20, 2012 Author Posted May 20, 2012 I knew he was a new mod(1 post)and didn't get that this thread has been here for months and never degenerated into name calling or bickering.Like most talented people, modelers have diverse interests and it is only natural that guitar (and bass) would also engender passion in the hearts of members of this forum.
Harry P. Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Many years ago, Dean Zielinski (the Dean of Dean guitars) hired me to do some custom airbrushed graphics for a line of Dean guitars, so I have a soft spot for this sort of thread. I still have a couple of the prototypes, hand finished and hand built.
FASTBACK340 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 ....since we're on a roll here. In my original post I self-edited, I had started to post that new guitar day in my household is a mixed emotion day. My Wife has initiated a new rule that if one comes, one goes. I had mentioned my recent "new guitar day" was a happy/sad day. I traded in my Ibanez BTB 4 string towards the Warwick Double Buck I posted above. But I trimmed it for fear of getting into it too much. I loved my old 4 string BTB (I still own a 5 string BTB...) but the Warwick feels like my old P-bass, but with more punch. Besides, the BTB has 18 volt active electronics and made it too hot for my playing. Every click, scratch, and thump screamed out of that Bass. The Warwick is so much warmer with less highs, but I can EQ that in. This is why new guitar day is a mixed emotion. I'm starting to think I need a new 5 string. It's a sickness. Like buying un-assembled model cars and never building them....
Dave Pye Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Ahhh....the mighty EB-3...I've had a couple over the years. I prefer my Precision (refurbished 1968), but there is nothing like the EB-3 or a P-Bass. Steve (my 14-year-old son) has an EB-3. He uses a 100w G-K for practice, but there are a couple of '60s Bassmans downstairs. Then, for those Jack Bruce moments, there is the Marshall...
FASTBACK340 Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Your son has an original Gibson EB-3, or the re-issue like mine? As much as I'd love an original, they change hands for big money. I can't afford to tie up that much in Bass #5.... my Wife is cool, but she'd kick my butt. I also own a '92 American made P-bass California Special. P body, Jazz neck & pick up's. Love it, but I hate taking it out to clubs. Everything else I can replace.....
