Luc - Thanks for your continued interest and support of this project

Bart - I don't think stuff will be ready for Heartland this year, and I've got bad news for you. I'm not going to be there this year. There was a conflict between it and an event that my wife is involved with. She doesn't drive so I've got to be there. Gotta maintain harmony in the marriage, you know... She's been very supportive of my modeling, so I can't complain too much.

Chris - Thanks for your enthusiasm and encouragement.

Henry - I do plan to include PE grips for the hand brake levers and butterfly steering wheels.

I'll plan to post updates as I make progress...

It's time for an update and I also have a question for you all. I've received an order of Dzus plates in various styles and scales and they look very nice. I'm just about to finish up my .004 stainless steel drawing, which includes the corresponding Dzus self-ejecting buttons, and which also leads me to my question. What size ID should I be drawing the fender/exhaust exit bezels, i.e., what OD best represents the collector/dumps that you're building? I've done two styles of fender bezels, a picture of which is attached showing them and the window bezel. The fender bezels are currently drawn with what represents a six-inch ID in 1:1. Is that too large? Let me know!

Scott

Nice to see you moving along on this, If i did the calculations correct for a 6" (1:1) that would be 3/8" in 1/16 which would be to big in my opinion, I would rather see something like 1/4" ID. Also not sure if it was mentioned or not, maybe do some Chute and door levers.

Thanks Joe. Your math is correct. Quarter inch would equate to a 4" collector, but that is extremely small in real world 1:1. Even 30 years ago on pro stockers, 4-1/2" was common. If they're too small, the bezels won't do anybody any good, so, if anything, I need to err on the side of being larger than necessary rather than smaller. I hope and trust that this makes sense to you.

Scott, Sorry about that. I was doing the window bezel, I misread your post. Right now im running 9/32" tube for my exhaust exit That equals a 4-1/2" pipe in 1:1. I checked the 9/32 tubing in my plastic ruler thing that has all the circle sizes that you can stick tubing through and the styrene tube that is 9/32" actually fits loose in it. So i think you would be able to go right at 9/32" and it would work, Worst case they could be filled down some. I personally can't use the exhaust bezels on this build because of the way i did the exit on my car. That's the best info i can come up with right now, I'm sure Dave will chime in on this also.

Thanks Joe. I edited my previous e-mail while you were adding yours. I'm glad we've had a meeting of the minds, so to speak. Since there needs to be at least some clearance, both in real world as well as whatever scale we're talking, I believe it could stand to be somewhat larger than 9/32 ID. How much more, I don't know... Thanks for speaking up! :D

most of the nitrous pro mods you see are running are using 5 inch collectors. i'm not sure how many of you are actually building to that number(it would equal a 5/16" collector in scale) that's why scott is asking you guys for the number. header design, primary tube dia. and collectors between pro stock and pro mod are enormously different.

Thanks for your input, Dave. I probably shouldn't have mixed that pro stock from 30 years ago comment in because it may cloud the issue. The point I was hoping to make was that a 4-1/2 collector was pretty much the norm when there were 700 HP engines 30 years ago. Displacement and power increases both would dictate, at least in 1:1, that we need to consider making something in scale that at least has the potential to accommodate a larger collector size. We just need to arrive at what that dimension is. What styrene tubing sizes are available, and how do those sizes avail themselves to matching up with primary tube sizes (hypothetical question)? What sizes of aluminum tubing might work to recreate a collector dia (again, hypothetical)? I don't care to be stuck with a bunch of PE that nobody wants because it won't work for them, which too small a dia would effectively do, especially as modelers are building more and more accurately and to scale...

Here is a picture of mine, Keep in mind this is when it was the 1/4" tubing. The 9/32" tubing is that much bigger, I don't have a current picture of mine now with the 9/32" tubing in place. I know alot of guys try to build to scale off 1:1 dimensions, which is fine and i have done that with anything that i could on my car. If i went with the 5" (5/16") collector it looks out of scale compared to the scale of my body and some other aftermarket parts, Maybe you could offer 3 different sizes on the tree to cover 4" (1/4"),4-1/2" (9/32") and 5" (5/16") ? I don't think in 1/16th scale you would use anything smaller than 4". Hard to say what to do, unless you totally scratch build everything like Dave can and does it's hard to keep everything to scale.

This is what a 4" exit pipe looks like.

Thanks Joe. I appreciate your feedback. We'll get it ironed out. Regardless of what I make, it will be in somewhat limited numbers until I can see how people get along with it and also to see what seems to work and what maybe doesn't work as well, then I can adjust.

I do, Joe. I've got .006 nickel-silver Dzus plates on-hand. I'll post some pics of the plates soon. I've got an order for a plate of .004 Stainless that I sent in last week that should be going into production soon and if everything goes smoothly, that should be ready by sometime in the first half of August. The .004 stainless will include Dzus self ejecting buttons in 1/25th to 1/8th scale. There are also window and header/fender bezels in three sizes, 1/25th, 1/16th and 1/12 (only one set), plus a sample ruler/hole spacing guide in 1/16th and one of the small card-type rulers/hole spacing guides. I've got most of a .016 nickel-silver plate drawn up that will include Lenco levers, brake rotors, chute/door handles and some other pieces that are in the 1/4th thick range in 1:1. Slow, but progress...

I wanted to elaborate on my post last night. It was late and I know I didn't do a good job of relating everything I wanted to. My .006 plate of nickel-silver contains the following:

1/25th Dzus plates in four individual styles plus a combo set

1/16th Dzus plates in three styles

1/12th Dzus plates in two styles

1/25th simple dual quad throttle linkage sets (carb throttle levers, bellcranks and arms for linkage)

1/25th Lenco lever grips

1/25th B&M Pro Stick console cover tops

My .004 stainless order will have:

1/25th, 1/16th, 1/12th and 1/8th Dzus self-ejecting buttons

1/25th 2-piece flex fans (70s-80s vintage pro stock type)

1/25th fuel cell ring and latch detail sets

1/25th spark plug wire loom sets

1/25th window bezel sets

1/25th round and oval fender/header bezel sets

1/16th window bezels sets

1/16th round and oval fender/header bezel sets

1/12th oval fender/header set (1)

1/25th fuel cell hold-down straps

1/25th tie wraps (experimental)

1/16th tie wraps (experimental)

1/25th camlock harness sets (2)

One 1/16th ruler/hole spacer with pro stock and pro mod wheel base called out on the ruler

One 1/16th-1/25th card-style ruler/hole spacer

Hopefully, if I did my job and the drawing editor and the etchers all do their jobs, we'll have a decent amount of stuff to work with for at least a little bit.

Stuff I’m working on in either .010” or .016”, most of which applies to larger scales:

1/16th Lenco levers

1/16th drilled rotors

1/16th slotted rotors

1/16th FC/TF/altered cockpit set (butterfly steering wheel, fuel shutoff and chute release levers)

1/16th doorslammer cockpit set (chute release levers, door handles). I’m trying to figure out a steering wheel grip so I can do steering wheels, too…

1/16th clutch/brake/accelerator pedal sets

1/25th and 1/16th trigger wheel sets

1/16th / 1/8th front clip retainer brackets

1/16th NOS upright fuel cell mounts

1/16th hand brake levers

1/16th, 1/8th chassis tabs/brackets

1/16th, 1/12th and 1/8th racing harness

1/16th, 1/12th and 1/8th wheelie bar wheels and brackets

I hope to eventually work on some 1/16th 4-link brackets.

That's about it for now.

Hey Scott.. i haven't forgotten about you buddy. I have been out of town since friday and have started drawing up some harness stuff late last week and will get those measurements off my real ones for ya as well.

Bart i have been slacking getting Scott the ibfo he.needs for the harness's lol

Thanks Joe. I'm pretty happy with the general lineup. Now I've just got to keep after getting the remainder drawn up, submit my drawings to the etcher, and get some money rounded up so I can afford to pay for the parts when they're finished... LOL

No prob, Chris. I've been busy and distracted. We had to put our 18 yr old kitty, Isabel, to sleep last week and it's been hard on my wife and me. Since we don't have "real" kids, she was our little furry girl... I know my pic of her is off-topic, but since I started the thread, I want to share a pic of her with others... RIP Izzy...

Thanks Dave. Some people won't understand our attachment to our furry children, but they become just as much a part of the family as people and often times, they're much easier to get along with! LOL As Donilee has said numerous times, they don't ever intend to do anything to harm us or hurt our feelings, unlike some people, so you almost come to have a greater love for them because they're innocent of the many faults that we, as humans, have... It's soooo quiet around the house, now that we don't have her talking to us, and probably even more vice-versa. We were constantly interacting with her, unlike the kitty we had before her, who was deaf (and for the most part mute) and hardly ever verbalized! She was my "Babygirl", among a multitude of other nicknames.
