I have a few questions concerning a 1957-63 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Convertible made by Hubley I'd say 1960 or so. Has anyone ever known of such a kit or was it maybe a Friction ? It was made in 1-24th scale and may have had a Friction motor attached in front . I'm trying to resurrect a windshield header for it and see if i can raid a AMT 300 Mercedes for needed parts . I'll put some pictures in the work in progress this evening . Ed Shaver

The red Hubley Mercedes that I have Ed is NOT friction powered. It IS a curbside, but it didn't come with a flywheel or motor. It is just a static model. ;)

The Hubley kit is very low in detail, and the windshield part of a Gullwing won't help you much since they're quite a bit different. Italeri made a much more detailed 1/24 version, but the shape of the windshield and frame is totally wrong - same problem with their 1/16 version, which is just an enlarged tooling of the 1/24. The only accurate roadster windshield I know of in 1/24 is on the Franklin Mint diecast.

I had a slot car track made by itc which I think used the Hubley gull wings. I can barely remember them but the bodies were detailed well and not toy like.

A great model car mag did an artical on Hubley kits a while back, and told the history of this kit. I can't remember what issue, maybe someone else will post that info.
