Bruce Poage Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Here is paint question. At least a month go I applied 3 mist coats of Model Master custom laquer to a show-bound project. Due to lack of time I didn't back on the project until today when I lightly wet sanded. After dusting with a tack rag I am ready for 3 "wet coats". I wanted to apply clear following the "wet coats". process. But after visiting 2 LHS and Hobby Lobby I could find no lacquer clear coat, only enamel. Suggestions please.
jbwelda Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 i believe the model master "normal" clear coat is lacquer. or at least i know for sure its not going to harm the lacquer when sprayed over it.
ismaelg Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Do you have access to Tamiya acrylic clear (jar) and an airbrush? That's an alternate route. The problem with enamel clear is that it usually yellows over time. Enamel or acrylic over lacquer is not a problem. Lacquer over either one of those is a no-no. Thanks,
bobss396 Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 The Tamiya X22 acrylic clear yellow when applied over white. I call it "cat whiz" in a jar and really only use it for attaching PE parts and clear lenses. Bob
Lyle Willits Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 I've applied Duplicolor Clear Laquer over both Testors and Tamiya lacquers with excellent results, MANY times. No problems encountered.
